15 months till we are debt free... Game on!

Hi there
I have been a lurker on this forum for a while now and have decided to start my own brand new diary!
My husband and I have been married for two years and we have two beautiful children who are 4 and 8 months (Christmas Day baby!!) we have gotten ourselves into a bit of debt! It's not a lot but I am a stay at home mum and my husband only works part time on minimum wage so not the best circumstances!

Our total debt is £3530
Store card: £96.34
Cc1: £153.42
H1: £179.24
H2: £442.30
Cc2: £949.90
Cc3: £1709.54

Eek.. Sounds loads when it's all written out!
A lot of our debt is on 0% finance so we don't pay a lot of interest!

Going to use this diary to keep track of our spends and repayments of debts! According to whatsthecost.com we should be debt free by the end of September 2015! I can live with that! No more spending!

Thanks for reading!

  • I have been thinking of some goals I would like to achieve by the end of September! Love a challenge

    September goals:
    1. Pay £300 of the total debt amount
    2. Get weight down to 17.10
    3. Sort through everyone's clothes in the house and give them to charity or sell the branded clothes!
    4. Walk dd to school rather than using the car at least 3 times a week!

these goals seem very doable! Will update if I come up with any more tasks! Main aim of September is to sort the house out!!

  • Thank you jodles! Here is hoping we stick to our plan! X
  • So hubby got paid today and we are using the whatsthecost snowballing guide to pay our debts!

    Debts
Cc3 - transferred £500 to cc2 which is an interest free cc till feb 2016
Also paid £62 off balance aswell which is minimum payment plus extra £20
    Cc2 - paid £50

We still have the usual rent, council tax, tv package to pay for this pay day but hopefully the balance transfer will go through successfully and it will reduce the amount of interest we pay on our bills!

Spending the rest of the day doing odd jobs around the house! But with two kids under 5 one of whom is a crawling baby! I doubt I'll get many done!

    Tasks for 29th august
    1, sort out my clothes
2, take unwanted furniture to the charity shop
3, sort out the plastic cupboard in the kitchen! (We never seem to find the right lid for the box)
4, bag up the towels and bedding for the collection coming Monday
5, change bedding and get them all washed!
6, get balances online and update our snowball on whatsthecost!

    Thanks for reading!

Are u on faceb@@k as there should be selling pages in you local area and most people can just pick your unwanted items up either for cash in hand or free I find that a lot better than ebay for selling things ESP kids clothes as I just sell mine in bundles xx

  • Thanks abba 1772 for your suggestion but I've tried selling on eBay and Faceb@@k and I have no luck it's just full of people messing around! The stuff I've got is not worth much selling so I'm giving the sheets and towels to the local dog rescue center and the kids clothes will be passed to family members!

Well today hasn't been that successful due to a very teething baby!

    Tasks for 29th august
1, sort out my clothes - not done, will save this for another rainy day!
2, take unwanted furniture to the charity shop -done, some went to the tip aswell nothing worth selling!
3, sort out the plastic cupboard in the kitchen! (We never seem to find the right lid for the box) - not done, daughter decided to set up her ponies in there instead!
4, bag up the towels and bedding for the collection coming Monday - done and going to the dog centre
5, change bedding and get them all washed! - not done too much washing already!
6, get balances online and update our snowball on whatsthecost! -done!

Still waiting to hear about a parcel I need to collect from b@@ts and about my balance transfer!

    Thanks for reading
  • hi all!
I've been busy sorting out my sons birthday/Christmas list and my daughters Christmas list! I'm determined to do Christmas and birthday without hitting the credit cards! I know once we get our debt down we will be able to do so much more as a family!

It's my husbands 30th this year aswell! His football tram is playing near where we live for the first time in ages in September so I promised him football tickets for his birthday! I've been saving for this day for a while as we were originally going to go to legoland for the weekend but I think it might be too far with the kids and will be freezing in November!

I think my balance transfer went through as it's saying pending transaction on the internet! Last time I transferred money I went out and spent on the card but I'm determined not to!

Plan for the rest of the day is to relax!! I don't really have much planned over the next few day and I don't get paid till Wednesday! We got paid Friday and have spent loads on useless stuff really need to curb that! But since I started slimming we haven't had a takeaway so that's about 4 weeks without eating out! Hubby works for a 'healthy' fast food chain so we do have the occasional one of them but he gets a very good staff discount so we practically pay pennies!

    Till next time! Bye xx
  • been a while since I posted but been a very busy week! Daughter started school this week full time so very emotional!
We have had quiet a few no spend days this week aswell!

But our bank accounts are still low!
    We have paid
    £50 to cc2
    £42 to store card
    £40 to h1
    £15 to cc3
    £62 to cc3

The balance transfer went through fine so makes the amount of interest we pay lower which is handy!
As we have a deadline to pay this debt off cc2 we will be paying as much as we can before that deadline! We have till feb 2016 to pay it off which should be easy enough!

Bought a few more Christmas presents, finished sons birthday presents now working on his Christmas ones! Hopefully will be done by mid November! Decided we are only going to spend a very limit amount on each other for Christmas nothing that we really need or want! Family will be getting less aswell!

We have booked our hotel to visit family and got it during the special discount sale so ended up paying £15 less than normal! Wish we didn't have to pay for it but family lives in a one bed bungalow not enough room for the four of us!

    Goals for the weekend are
-sort out shed into three piles(take to tip, carboot or keep)
    - sort out my shirts as I have far too many they are breaking my chest of drawers!
-change bedding ounces all the washing is done!

    Not much today!

Oh.. Hubby has a driving lesson and only booked it yesterday so that's £20 that I didn't budget for out our money! Keep forgetting about the driving lesson money! And I never budget for the babies nappies and milk! I suppose I best do a proper budget and include everything!
