I was under the impression one could defer state pension twice in a pension lifetime ?
However in the recent options/choices leaflet given out by the DWP pensions
It states deferral can only be deferred once ??
Had it been twice in previous years ?

Once it has been taken you can only defer the once after that, it has always been the same.0

So you mean it can be deferred twice ... once at the beginning and again later on down the line?
I'm interested in clarification of this. I am already in receipt of my state pension (so under existing rules) having deferred it for a mere five weeks simply to kick it off in a new tax year ... figured it would simplify tax coding.
If it is allowed, I may like to defer again in due course.... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0 -
At the moment the state pension must be claimed to get it. So you can defer the first time by not claiming it. Once you start to take it you can defer once more.
Under the incoming flat rate scheme it will not be necessary to claim the state pension so you would need to actively say that you don't want it yet to use the first of those opportunities.
Oblivion, yes you can start to defer once after starting to take it and I recommend that most people do for at least a few years. Provided they can afford it and are in normal good health. Some might want to do it for more than a few - five or more - if they are from long-lived families or want to treat it as insurance of income against a long life.0 -

Are you sure of this? It is a new one on me and all the current systems do not do anything like this. They can complete a claim form but the punter still has to submit it.
The invitation to claim (still the BR33 in many cases) will remain but the claim relies on people responding to it.0 -
