I see a lot of people on here saying that dentists abroad work to various levels of quality ... Mostly high or words to that effect. I'm interested to know what you consider to be quality? Because IMHO without dental training how do you gauge quality? Aesthetics? Lack of pain? Other criteria?
I have seen work done abroad which the recipient thinks is wonderful and have said how high the standards of the dentist was. However when I look at it I have seen terrible work and treatment choices that will leave that person in a far worse state within a couple of years. Conversely I have seen good work where the recipients didn't have a good experience.
  • After searching for a dental clinic abroad, I was recommended Diamant Dent Clinic by my German nephew. I needed a full denture with implants in my upper jaw. I visited the clinic personally. The transfer was arranged each time from the airport Vienna for free of charge.
After the first consultation I started right with my treatment, so I got my implants. I slept right over the clinic. At my second visit I got my denture on implants and spent about 10 days in the wellness hotel, which belongs to the clinic. The price of my treatment was less than a half of UK prices. So it is really worth to have a dental treatment done abroad.
  • I'm trying to find the same thing, a website with up to date price lists on various countries dental procedures seems to be none, I may build the website myself. The only reliable thng I got from this thread so far is that there is a practise in Germany called Diamant Dent Clinic and india local dentiast appear cheaper but not concrete findings bar opinion

fwiw, I've been quoted £1500 for an implant by my local Dentist (south of UK)
  • M'father had a dental emergency - filling came out, had all gone nasty, a lot of pain, when in Russia.
A colleague hauled him to their local chap & the dentist walked dad through all the possibilities (including trying Lots of vodka & just getting home - the dentist absolutely got that the client might still choose to get up & leave) and they agreed on a clean up, antibiotics & filling.
Dad was able to finish his meetings in much better shape & his home dentist looked & crooned approval.
Dad might consider dental tourism, but decades with the same firm creates plenty of reassured inertia.
  • It does say something if it's cheaper to pay for flights and accomodation, AND dental treatment than it is to simply go to a dentist in the UK.

I'm afraid I can't post links as a new user, but the following site appears to be a comparison site for costs of dentistry abroad.

    treatmentabroad.com/costs/dental-treatment

    From the site:
With access to affordable NHS dentistry becoming increasingly difficult and the costs of private dentistry becoming prohibitively expensive, a significant number of people in the UK are now seeking dental treatment abroad.

Modern, high quality treatment is available worldwide at prices significantly lower than at home, and many people choose to combine their dental treatment with a relaxing holiday. Popular procedures include cosmetic and restorative dental techniques such as implants, crowns and bridges, veneers, composites and ceramic inlays/onlays, teeth whitening and orthodontic braces.
  • I'm trying to find the same thing, a website with up to date price lists on various countries dental procedures seems to be none, I may build the website myself.

I just did a web search for "compare dental costs in the world" and found a website that lists treatment costs along with accommodation & flights so I think it exists already.

I have found this website dentaldepartures dot com as I intend to go on a dental jaunt after a staggering estimate from my French dentist. I have decided on Hungary, using Ryanair from Paris and Aibnb for accomodation. All told, It still works out at around one third of the cost, even with State assistance and topup health insurance. I must say that the surgeries look so much more up to date than what is offered locally.
Thanks to all who contributed to this thread for strengthening my resolve, as it seems the only doubters are actually British Dentists.
I will be posting an update at the end of march on my experience.

I’m sure everyone will be grateful you have resurrected this old thread to talk about a Dental service you have not used yet , comparing costs with France rather than the UK. Presumably you have not even met the dentist, let alone had treatment.

Interestingly the site quotes a ceramic crown in the UK costs almost £1000, most surgeries will quote a private charge of £250 to £450 .

Chose a dentist on personal recommendation , from someone you know, not on price.

Three old dental threads have been revived today.

Methinks someone might be targeting the site for some spam
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
