It looks like Office Live Basics (FREE) could be the starting point for you as you don't have to know much about HTML. Domain name belongs to you and they will keep on paying the renewal for you too. I'm considering signing up.

I completely agree. My web site was up and running is an hour, completely free and I am totally not savvy at all about HTML or whatever it is called! Highly recommended. And I went through Quidco.........although it is is not tracking!!
  • I've got a question regarding websites, I work for a small charity and we have an .org.uk website, we pay a firm for hosting our site around £88 per year.

If we looked into one of these free hosting sites, do we keep our URL? We have to use this as it's a great way for families to find us and it's on all of our stationary.

Does anyone know if we swap 'hosters' can we keep our website address?

    Many thanks

    Hi Lisa

Your url/web address is only a easy to remember pointing device to the web space your site is hosted on, for example:

    http://www.yoursite.com points to 198.01.01.164

All you need to do is change the space your url points to for example:

    http://www.yoursite.com points to 198.01.01.165

    Hope this helps

  • I'm wondering if someone can help, I signed up to office live a while ago for a web page and quickly threw something together, I then effectively forgot about it until recently. It was recently when check on stats for one of my affiliate programs that I noticed it was showing a good number of impressions and clicks, and even some sales. Checking further showed that it did have quite a high page rank for a couple of popular terms even though the content is minimal.
My problem is that I have forgotten my log-in details and even what email address I used to sign up with! (can we have a muppet smilie here?) It could be one of about 30 email addresses, though as all these addresses should be configured to forward mail to my googlemail account I should have a record of the login info somewhere in my 14,000 emails, if only I can find the right search term to find it! Can anyone give me some info on the sign up confirmation email either header or email address it was sent from to narrow my search down a bit?
    Do You Twitter?
Why not follow me and find out what I'm tweeting about!

LOL, sorry I had to laugh about, not on your misfortune, the 30 email address and 14,000 emails bit.

I didn't get a confirmation email from Office Live when I registered yesterday so I can't help you on that one. How about contacting Office Live help desk with your domain name? You do remember your domain name....right??

Look here, free hosting for UK charities
    http://www.ukwebhosting.co.uk/features/charity.html

and type web hosting charity uk into Google if not suitable
Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens
  • Hi,

Thanks ever so much for replying - I'm just not sure if you mean we can keep our URL or if we leave the people we pay £88 to we can't?

Does our web address belong to us and stay with us?

    Thanks again!

It's ok I think I understand! Looking on that site: https://www.ukwebhosting.co.uk/hosting/charity.html it says they'll host Charity sites for free, when I typed in our URL it said 'this is our site host it for us', so I'm guessing the URL is ours?!

I hope I've got it right???!!!
