So because 1 person tricked 1 food bank out of some food, you've decided that food bank fraud is a big problem and the charities are lying about the scale of the need for foodbanks.
Ok.
It isn't worth arguing with logic like that.Saving for deposit: Finished! :j
House buying: Finished!
Next task: Lots and lots of DIY0 -
Thank you all for your helpful replies, it is good to know what people want and appreciate. I will add some of those to my shopping each week, especially the nappies and things, especially now my littlest is potty training!!

I like this idea for stopping some of the ongoing fraud:

You have to be referred to a food bank! To be quite honest I don't care if a few take the p. What I do mind is comments like yours that makes it even more difficult for those who are truly strugglingBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I take about three carrier bags of stuff to our local food bank every month.
This month it is a couple of boxes of cornflakes, 2 uht milk, 2 tins tuna, 1 tin stewed steak, 2 tins mince, 2 jars coffee, 2 boxes of tea bags, a jar of instant hot chocolate, 2 tins potatoes, a box of instant mash, a pack of 5 Maggi instant noodles, a couple of packs of cheese sauce 4 tins mixed veg, 2 jars of pasta sauce 2 packs toilet rolls, 2 bottles shampoo, 6 bars soap, some sanitary pads, toothpaste and a pack of nappies.
There but for the grace of God go I.
How sad that in the 21st century we are having to pick up the pieces after a government that keeps kicking the poorest and most vulnerable in society while their rich mates are raking it in :mad::mad::mad:Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

In some cases we are picking up after those people who take the 'p' as you put it.
I For one, don't believe any more they are probably so few as you seem to. Though I do believe those who do need , need truly, and often not just food boxes but other help. In the last couple of years I have ceased to take money from two clients and asked them to remove their custom as it became clear that they were such.
Also, I don't think different political ideals want people to suffer. At least I don't. I think I probably see a different way forward than you do politically, but it don't think insulting people about it makes for cohesive community NOW, which ultimately, under which ever government, is what is most helpful to tackle many social ills.0 -
I used to donate food each week to our local food bank but kept forgetting what the latest things they needed were so I set up a direct debit to go to them each month, they buy whatever they need and I don't have to keep checking, win win all round.0

From being grateful, many food bank recipients are now getting picky. Listening to Jeremy Vine recently, there was a tale of a mum shoplifting fresh food, as the food bank offered no fresh veg/fruit/cheese/eggs/bacon.
I tweeted the JV show, bit it never got on air.
Wouldn't it be great if at checkout you could either scan your clubcard to donate the points (I'm using Tesco as an example here), or scan a random clubcard behind the till that gave vouchers to foodbanks. Often I spend, say £15 can't be arsed to find my card so go without; that may only be 15p but I would soon add up, and if they showed it as a donation on your receipt that would help too.
I know this has been abused in the past by checkout peeps scanning their Mums card when the customer had no card, but by showing up the donation on the receipt, this could evade scamming.
Even in a small Tesco, 10p per customer without card, wanting to donate their points would soon add up.
Just my 5-penneth worth.0 -
Tubes of primula cheese are a handy donation as they do not need to be kept in a fridge and have several months date on them. Home bargains sell this for about 80p a tube. Not sure of the nutrition content though.0
