Start DMP in September. Advice needed...

Hi,

My DMP with Step Change starts 10 September. I intent to be debt free in 2016. The DMP includes my old student loan dating back to the 1990's and has previously been paid by Direct Debit. However, I didn't cancel by DD in time (due to the bank holiday and being paid earlier than anticipated) with the SLC and subsequently Septembers payment has been taken out of my account. Will Step Change be able to deduct my payment to the SLC from my DMP for 1 month only to reflect the fact I've paid already (albeit the full amount)? Anybody been in this situation. I can't afford to pay £500 to Step Change and £150 to SLC.

Stepchange do not pay your creditors until the 25th of the month so if you give them a call I'm sure they can sort something out for you.

Couldn't you call them and request that the payment be £350 instead of £500 just this month? SLC would still get a portion of that money but at least you're paying what you can afford.

Thanks - will call them on Tuesday - I am sure it's fixable. Don't know why my bank deducted a payment due on the 26th on Saturday though! It's not as if the 26th is a B/H - confused. The bank cashier explained that the 'system' (i.e. the bank) thinks it's Tuesday on the Saturday - beyond me :(

If you ring your bank they can recall the payment for you, but you need to do it like now !!!!!

I would contact Stepchange, & if you need to the start of DMP can be set back a month, but obviously need SC to confirm that.

Shameless plug for DMP mutual support thread, we are usually on page one of the DFW page as we need a lot of support ;-)
