Are you sure that is not the case. Sounds like it has been accidently sat on to me.
There is nobody who could have done that.0 -
JJ Egan, You are right, I am sort of saying two things. One is that I do think the iPad Air is flimsier than the others. I have had my original iPad for four years and it has been through all sorts without a scratch. However this one has had nothing done to it to cause it to bend (should a supposedly sturdy piece of electronic equipment be able to 'bend' anyway??).
But I am also saying that if there IS damage, then it wasn't caused by me. How could the store prove that it is me? Any more than I can prove it is them that is liable?0 -
You need to find other reports of the same fault online to help build a case
You should find loads if it's design faultEx forum ambassador

I have an iPad Air, and it gets used daily, and does get a fair old beating. It's been fine.
A cracked screen rarely just 'happens', there will have to have been an event that caused it to crack. I used to work for a large mobile retailer in the department that heard all the 'stories' of how it wasn't done by the user etc etc, but at the end of the day if a piece of glass is cracked, it was probably done by the end user.
You won't win this to be honest, I'd just get the screen replaced.0 -

My husband has a laptop and doesn't like Apple products so he has never used it.
Seriously, I am starting to feel like I am being interrogated when I was simply trying to gather some consumer rights information! My iPad is kept in my bedside table or on my desk. It has never been carried outside and is kept in a protective case. It is a computer tablet, not a cut crystal champagne flute. Handle with care and attention.
I used it for two months. Almost every day. I repeat, it has never been dropped, or even taken outdoors. I have dropped and cracked both my iPhones 4 and 5 and have happily admitted that. But this, I did not drop/put anything heavy on/bend. It did not have any more stress than being typed on.0 -

Which is why you need an independent report. If, as you say, there has been no damage the report will state that, you then take the report back to JL/Apple and tell them that your inspector has found no such damagespacegirlfive wrote: »There is nobody who could have done that.spacegirlfive wrote: »My husband has a laptop and doesn't like Apple products so he has never used it.

So there is someone in the house who could have sat on it if it had been left on the sofa/bed/chair.I used it for two months. Almost every day. Apple are not saying it has been dropped, they are saying it is bent, which would be consistent with it being sat on or leant upon.
However, if your independent report finds no such damage that is irrelevant.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
John Lewis have done exactly what is required of them in ascertaining the cause of the screen failure so the only avenue open to you is to arrange an independent report. This will only lead to a resolution from JL if it confirms that there is an inherent fault. There is going to be no way of proving that accidental damage was incurred during the supply chain prior to your purchase, especially as it came to light months later. It might hurt but the only other recourse I can suggest would be to make a claim for the repair costs against your contents insurance.0
