Saturday 23rd / Sunday 24th August - what small DFW things will you do today

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

    Evening Weekend People,
Today's small positive things to keep me pence in me purse:
*Updated budgets. Grocery budget overspent by £12 this month but not too worried as it included quite a lot of ingredients for preserving & that makes stuff to eat over the next year plus a few gifts.
*Did not visit coffee shop in town. Was gagging for caffiene but came home & put the kettle on. Go me!
*Free fitness - 2 hours of getting quite physical in the garden with the edging tool.
    *Watered veggies.
*Picked tomatoes & made some of them into tomato soup.
*Picked more salad & herbs for making tonight's meal.
*Picked another cup of the blackberries poking through from neighbour & added to my blackberry collection in the freezer.
*Set the washer for overnight laundry on Economy 7.
    *Did a few surveys.
*Packed picnic for day trip tomorrow. Have a voucher for free afternoon tea, but will need lunch.
*Bought yarn to knit Christmas present. I budgeted £10 & spent £7.50, so that's £2.50 gone back in the Present Piggy. Will cast it on later. Love a new project!
And not forgetting mr f's contributions to the world of money saving. I'm proud of him as if anything, his attitude to money used to be even worse than mine. Today he has:
*Mended the broken shed door. Total cost = £2.49
*Re-listed some items on ebay & also listed his 'spare' multi-region DVD recorder which has been sitting around for ages for him to decide what to do with it.
*Found a gizmo he needed in Wilko's for half the price he'd seen it elsewhere.
    Have a nice night, everyone,

  • Good morning! This thread is really helping to keep me focused. I was tempted to buy new maternity clothes yesterday and resisted :). Anyway, today I aim to:

Relist items for sale and add done new ones, £17 made yesterday :)

Do minimal top up shop at aldi, just bread, eggs and butter.

Make homemade chilli using mince from the freezer and have it with jacket potatoes which need using- nice cosy Sunday tea! Hopefully have some chilli left over too.

Do my nails, they're annoying me but I hate doing them. Will do them so I'm not tempted by a manicure.

    Check banking.

Might make a banana cake with leftover nanas.

    Have a good day everyone!

This is the first time I've posted on here, so here goes.
    So far I have
    1) Resisted the urge to go to the car boot sale.
    2) Checked the online banking on my phone.

    Later I will
    1) Make a meal plan for the week
    2) Do an online shop so I don't overspend in the supermarket
    3) Collect loads of horse manure from Freecycle (for the allotment)

    Have a good day everyone.

  • Hello everyone, happy Sunday-before-Bank-Hol-Monday for those who are not having to work!

My urgent list (dfw as its part of prepping house for paying guests who are coming tomorrow):
    • filing and move sensitive paperwork
    • deep clean in lounge and kitchen
    • confirm house sitting plans
    • check out ebay listings for box of stuff under stairs
    • pack!
Today I have a dear friend visiting :T so we will be going into town for a trip down memory lane (we met at college here) and a walk around. I am pretty sure it will involve some coffee shops and maybe some charity shops to look at books but also very certain she isn't a big spender either. We ate in last night (left overs made into a mezze!) and had talked about going to a local cheap restaurant (a student haunt of ours) for lunch but sadly its not open. I'm going to treat us both to either snacks or a late lunch from the money I am getting from the paying guests today. She is still snoozing (it is her holiday!) so part of my plan is to fill us both up with pancakes for brunch, eat out for late lunch, then come home for dinner - I have lots of soup and pasta sauce in the freezer, and need to empty the fridge really :) This is all a lot cheaper than a train ticket to go to see her, and having an old friend visit is such a good healer! We don't need to spend to do anything, just spuddling about will be nice!
