It is in the 2008 scheme.

As you probably know, NRA for all schemes moves to state retirement age from next April.

I'd forgotten about that, as it doesn't apply to either me or my OH!

To be clear, normal retirement age changes to state pension age only for service within the new post 2015 schemes.

Those with protection (varies by scheme, but can apply to those aged 46 or over on 31st March 2012) may be able to remain in the current schemes and if so are not affected until they move to the post 2015 schemes. All past service (regardless of age or whether moving to the post 2015 scheme in April 2015) remains with the same normal pension age it has currently (eg 60 or 65).

Not another "shall I throw away my NHS pension" thread...

Don't the NHS run any workshops on their scheme?(for those who don't open the booklet...)

Or do they just hope that staff will continue to throw themselves off the proverbial bridge and save them some money?

I doubt it's solely the scheme. Remember that the unions have been talking about the public sector pensions getting worse and it's easy for those who don't know as much about them as the regulars here to thing that less good means "bad", rather than "still great, just not as great as before".

On the bright side, there are people who come here to ask and hopefully they can pass the word around and help with the education of their co-workers.
