Tooth extraction, Hungry and worried.

It's 48 hours since this upper first molar was extracted. I really can't bear the thought of more semolina and yogurt etc and I'm craving a cup of tea and some tasty food! I've been reading that you should avoid hot food and drink afterwards but no one says for how long. My dentist's advice was to avoid hot things for 24 hours and then just not to worry about it and it'll be fine but I'm terrified of getting dry socket. I've read online that if I even cough or sneeze, I will get dry socket and I'm unsure of when the risk of that is over.
The pain is very minimal now and I feel like I could manage most foods. It's only fear that is stopping me. I'm also thinking that if any food particles went near the extraction site, it would cause infection. I'm on clindamycin so I'm hoping that will help prevent it but what if something actually went in the hole?
Could anyone share their experience after a tooth extraction? When did you feel ok eating normal (but soft) foods?

if the densist advised 24 hrs then I would go with that just try not to chew on that side. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Do as your dentist tells you. I didn't and now have dry socket and it's not nice0

I had the tooth out on friday 15th but didn't realise something was wrong until the following Wednesday when my face ballooned!0

OMG!!
I have NO idea what any of you are talking about! What is Dry Socket?
I had an upper molar removed at 3pm yesterday and it came out in several pieces. My gum is cut up to my lip line and there is a VERY big hole, but the pain has already gone....
Last night I had pasta for dinner and only struggled because of the remnants of the local anaesthetic! I just avoided chewing on the affected side. My dentist didn't give me any antibiotics and the only advice was to return if it started bleeding (which it hasn't so far) and to rinse with tepid salty water after eating.
I feel fine today and had normal coffee and toast breakfast and am now tucking into a Danish Pastry at the keyboard! I can't imagine avoiding food and drink until the hole healed....!!
If anyone can put my mind to rest about the dry socket thingy I'd be most grateful0 -
It's basically where the blood clot comes out and the bone/nerve is exposed to the air causing very severe pain. I'm not sure of the timeframe involved but it seems to start after a few days where you think you're healing well and then suddenly the pain is worse than ever.
I'd advise not reading about it. I did and I'm terrified!0 -
I have always been a rule breaker, and i follow the dentists rules...for a few hours. I have had several teeth out and have always eaten a meal that night - something soft and not too hot. I haven't ever had the dreaded dry socket
The one bit of advice i use is the salt water rinse to get rid of any particles
I think after 48 hours you would be fine, the clot will have formed well enough by nowWith love, POSR0 -
I smoke and there was an infection under my tooth. That'll be why I got dry socket. The dentist told me not to smoke for 24 hours but I only managed 6. I was careful and only had 3 cigs but I still brought it on myself0

I was advised not to drink hot or cold drinks / food for a few hours and after that I was fine.0

I've had three out in the past... never had any special instructions about eating/drinking. He whipped them out .... and I toddled off.0
