mortgage advisors how to choose

Hi all,

Am looking to raise a small mortgage. What's the best way to choose a mortgage broker. I'm new to area, so can't get a recommendation, and don't just want to randomly pick one out of then phone book or off the internet.

Call them up, have a quick chat. Do you like them/get on/do they sound knowledgeable?
Do they sound busy, like they are stressed, cant be a...ed etc?

There is nothing to say they have to be local, can you get recommendations for brokers in the area you used to live?
