Any advantges to using HSBC for a mortgage if I have a current account with them (for about 30 years) eg would I still need to go through all the hoops that anybody else would (for example sending bank statements)?
No skeletons regarding my credit history.
Otherwise I'll probably use a broker.

Same hoops, lower fees/rates if you are a Premier/Advance customer, IIRC.I am a mortgage broker. If you only bank with them you would not have to provide any bank statements as obviously they can see them. I have recently moved house and though I took a different mortgage product I stayed with first direct/HSBC. I was not credit searched which I was very surprised about but I am guessing they must have criteria such as if you hold your main current account with then or already have a mortgage with them when deciding what checks they do. I still had to send my last 3 pay slips and last 3 months of my other current account with a different bank. It was a very speedy process, helped I am sure because they know you.
However, I guess it could also backfire if you have had any problems with your current account in the past e.g. Unauthorised overdrafts etc as they would know about it even if it occurred more than 3 months ago.0
