Diabetes advice

I have just been told am diabetic, still waiting to see specialist nurse but meanwhile been researching as much as possible. I am not a cook, I eat a lot of ready meals. Can anyone recommend any kind of ready meal that would be suitable. Am finding lot of conflicting information. Thanks

Are you overweight? This sounds like an opportunity to ditch the ready meals and get some proper food.

Do you have type1 or type 2 diabetes? Ready meals are not suitable for either.

There are two diabetes charities that have lots of info on their websites and the forums are great for advice too. They may have the info you need. Hopefully when you speak to the nurse they will also refer you to a dietician who can give you tailor made support.

Your weight loss could be due to the diabetes, so not a good thing. You do need to start eating a balanced diet, which you will not get from ready meals.

So you might have diabetes, that's totally different.

So I take it you won't be eating ready meals anymore? If you do have diabetes you will be allocated a diabetes nurse, he/she can then advise you on a suitable diet.

Depending on your health authority, they will put you in touch with a dietician, and better yet a food experts group forum for 6 weeks, I found it very useful, and you soon learn how 'poisonous' the foods we eat are. Cooking is not difficult, and just switching to fresh foods will see many health benefits , I was told 3 years ago, and the blood sugar is well under control and very near non diabetic levels, tonight I'm having mackeral steak with spuds and veg, it will take probably 10 mins to do and is about 3 mins longer than preparing a ready meal, however the kcal count, fat, carbs etc will be much lower, oh and I done my award winning cherry and coconut muffins .

Anyways, cooking and preparing fresh foods are easy cheap healthier, and no need to be a candidate for master chef.
