Scentsy - is it worth it?

Hi All

I am considering joining up as a scentsy rep in my spare time.

I am wondering if any of you have any experiences of it.
One reservation is that there seems to be a lot of people doing it and am wondering if the market is over saturated with reps?

Thanks

My sisters and some of my friends LOVE Scentsy. Me personally I prefer my Yankee Candles. I like to be able to go into the shops and smell them before I buy so I know what I like. Also electric is dear enough ATM so don't see why I would get a burner that runs by electric??

I will admit though a local taxi driver has a Scentsy car scent thing in the front and it's lovely lol.

Good luck if you do decide to go ahead with this new Venture :)

Because an electric burner can't fall over and set your house on fire !! Burners that use candles can be very dangerous if not placed in a safe place and should never be left unattended...... electric ones are good for bedrooms etc if you want to fill the room with lovely vapours for blocked noses etc during "cold season". I would never have a candle burner in the bedroom...... to many risks.....

A friend went to one of the parties and bought a burner and some wax melts. One I swear I smell nothing from them when melted apart from melted wax. She let me smell what was suppose to be lavender, er no cheap synthetic paraffin wax.

Oh and I count Yankee as cheap wax candles which smell nothing like the real flower they are suppose to be.

Electric is just as dangerous as candles. I'm very careful and safe with my candles and always ensure it is on a stable surface where it cannot be knocked over or fall over. I don't have one in my bedroom. If I have a cold, I'll stick to he traditional Vicks on a hanky.

Wouldn't I personally wouldn't trust an electric burner as even when the plug is switched off there's a chance of a problem. Also I prefer to save my electricity and money.

  • Thank you all for your opinions. I was impressed when I tried it for the first time and placed an order last week. I took it in to work to show the girls and someone else placed an order too. This lead me to thinking that it might be a good idea as an extra-income earner. However a quick look on facebook turns up lots of Scentsy consultants doing the same thing.

There maybe a lot of people doing it, however if you were able to get a few orders from your family and friends, work colleagues etc. you could make a bob or two. They might not now anyone who sells them, or might prefer to order from you.

My personal thing about the likes of these is people feel obliged to buy something from the person doing it every time it comes to ordering etc. Which is why I don't like Avon. You order once and when the order comes the new book is along with it and you feel obliged to buy from that. And people just can't afford to do that these days, or just don't want to.

Warmhands is spot on ask any fireman
    Live candles can be deadly

Do the maths with the scentsy thing read the small print, its a lot of work for very little money & I bet u have to fork out a small fortune to get started
  • Thanks for your comments. Startup kit is £89 which includes some demo kit and paperwork. Commission seems to start at 20% and the key to it seems to be through parties. Still completely undecided.

  • I've been a Scentsy Consultant in the UK now for 3 years (and a Director for the past year), so if you have any questions about the business then just ask!

I joined because I was a massive fragranced wax fan (primarily Yankee), and when Scentsy launched over here I just had to try it, though I didn't think it would be as good as Yankee. Within an hour of trying it I knew that Scentsy was for me. The fragrances are strong, long lasting and much cheaper than other brands too once you have gotten over the expense of buying a warmer. They are very cheap to run, with average useage using less than 30p worth of electricity per month, so cheaper than using tea-lights.

The safety aspect was what primarily drew me in, I like the fact that I can turn the warmer on and leave it on all day without having to think about changing tea-lights, or blowing it out when I leave the home. The wax once melted only gets to just above body temperature too, so if you have any little ones they can even dip their fingers in the melted wax and it won't burn them (though it does make a mess if you knock it on the carpet - Scentsy wax is good, but it's not that good lol).

As far as the number of consultants go, there are are around 1,500 in the UK at the moment - now that sounds like a lot but it really isn't when you consider a company like Avon who has tens of thousands in the UK.

One of the best things about Scentsy over other direct selling companies is that once someone has bought a warmer, they are always going to need wax for it. A lot of my business now comes from repeat orders from customers so I don't have to go 'looking' to find someone to sell to! :)

In the 3 years I've been doing it not only have earned great commission but I've also earned incentive trips to Greece, a mediterranean cruise - and in January I'm off to Cancun!!

Realistically though you get out of it what you put in and you won't become a millionaire overnight - but this is one business that you can earn a life changing salary from without needing a college or university education! I work part time in another job, I have a husband and a little boy, but I still find time to work my business when I can and it's great that it fits in around me and my family life. :)

The starter kit is £94 delivered, and the only criteria to remain an active consultant is to sell at least £166 worth of product once every 3 months (parties generally take double this amount) - so one party once every 3 months and you'll remain active, this is really achievable! Worst case scenario and you don't carry on with it, your consultancy is just deactivated but you get to keep all of your starter kit....

Again, if you have any questions just give me a shout! :)
  • Oh and you don't NEED to do parties at all to be successful. I have a girl on my team who was undecided about joining as she didn't want to do parties as she felt uncomfortable standing up in front of people telling them about the product.... But she has rocked her business just from word of mouth (a friend likes a friends warmer and so on........), and she does the occasional event like a craft fayre, and she has sold well over £1000 worth in 2 months! You get your own Scentsy website (free for the first 3 months, £10 per month then on if you wish to carry it on), where people can order from you, the product gets sent directly to them and you get the commission! :) Customers can't buy from Scentsy directly like you can with Avon, products can only be bought through a consultant which is fab! Basket parties are really popular too, you just give out a basket containing a warmer, catalogues and testers (which are all included in your kit), collect it from them in a weeks time and process all the orders - so they do all the hard work for you! :)
