Long story short I was self employed when the recession hit and my finances took the brunt of it. Now I'm in full time employment and with the help of this forum I'm rectifying my wrongs and my credit score improved by over a hundred points in the last two weeks alone.
However there's one stumbling block - Marlin Financial Services.
They purchased my old HSBC CC debt at a balance of £2000. There was and still is a payment plan in place but I want to get the balance, and the credit record, cleared ASAP.
I've called Marlin twice to try and negotiate a settlement but they're simply not interested and seem intent in getting every penny even if it takes 15 years of minuscule payments.
For what it's worth the default notice expires in 24 months but I'll obviously still have the balance hanging over me hence I want to get it cleared but I'd obviously like to pay between 50% and 75% if possible.
Any advice?

Make the offer in writing, if the still don't accept, you could drop your payments to £1 a month, you will be surprised how quick they will sell it on.;)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. When was the CC started? Before or after 6th April 2007?
Is there any PPI on the card (unlikely) or are there penalty charges (more likely)? If either then claiming those back might offset the balance a bit.BSC No 248

If taken out before April 2007 send a CCA request.
If no valid one is sent back, stop paying as can't get a CCJ without signed original agreement.
Then, they will be much more likely to settle.
Your credit file is defaulted I guess so nothing else they can do.:beer:0
