Hi all, I've been comping for about 2 weeks yet, obviously I haven't won anything yet. I'm just after advice...
I don't use twitter and I don't like entering facebook competition as it fills mine and my friends news page when I have to like and share. I wondered if I am considerably cutting down my chances of winning by sticking to website comping and avoiding social network comps?

With Facebook comps you can never be sure that you will know if you've won and I don't do facebook comps, mainly for the reasons that you've mentioned. Opening a twitter account for comping is good, because Twitter comps are really quick and easy to enter.
There are so many good competitions available that don't use social media, so I really wouldn't worry about it too much. Thanks to all who post constructively.
Have an A1 day!0 -
By avoiding the TW / FB competitions you're obviously cutting down your chances to win, since you won't be entering as many. Personally I don't use Twitter, and for the same reason as you I don't enter FB comps either.
There's a post in the forum for FB friends ... I didn't look at it, but im guessing it's for people that setup "fake" profiles and use it only for comps (so their real friends don't get spammed). This could be a way around the FB spamming friends issue. So you could maybe look into that.
The way I would do it is to get a different browser, ie If you use Firefox as your main browser download Chrome or Safari and use this as your Comping browser. You can then login to your new comping facebook profile in this secondary browser and get it to save your login then when your comping your facebook is always signed in (with your fake profile) and ready to go and won't interfere with your proper facebook which will be logged in to your real profile in a different browser.
You could also do the same for Twitter, just setup a new Twitter account and log into it on your comping browser.
Hope this helps.0 -
I don't do a Twitter, Rafflecopter or Pinterest comps at all and until recently I didn't do Facebook ones. I only do Facebook comps which are entry forms as opposed to like/share/comment etc as I don't want them polluting my friends newsfeed.:money::rotfl::T0

Just be careful with facebook as you can have your main account closed if your caught out having a second. Lots of people do it, just be aware of the risks.
However, Facebook are bringing in a new rule starting in November. Companies are no longer allowed to ask people to like a page any more and sharing is already against their rules (even though some still do it). I use Facebook a lot but very rarely enter like and share ones. Most nowadays are forms to fill out then you get the option of sharing but it isn't required to enter it.
When you see a comp on here usually people will write (L&S) next to it. If you avoid them, you should be ok
If any of that made sense??
Also, I have entered hundreds upon hundreds of Twitter competitions and only won once.... xxThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I do FB & Twitter comps, i've only won a couple of times on FB although upon googling my name last night I did find another I won in May but wasn't notified about. I have won quite a few on Twitter though & as they mention your name or DM you at least you find out.
Good luck x0 -

2 weeks isn't long & some of the competitions you've entered might not have even finished yet.
It took me a over a month of entering 100's of comps before I had my first win so keep going & good luck.0 -

That is beyond annoying and I can't understand why they dont bother to contact you. Hope it wasn't something of life changing value.
I recently changed my comping fb account name, well I just added a surname on. My name before was so common that googling it came up with loads of pages of results. So if anyone does set up a comping account, have a name that is a bit unique and easy to search for.0 -
