Hugs to anyone who has their mum or dad fading away, it is so very hard, the process of letting them go.

The nightmare started for us last summer, since we went into August its like a very badly cracked record is going found and round in my head and only by keeping busy can I shut it out. I just keep replaying everything that happened.

It started in May, youngest son finished uni, left home and started his first full time job. We didn't have much chance to get used to him being away and missing him and having the entire house to ourselves though because youngest son came home on extended leave in July. He was home for 6 weeks. In the middle of this OH had some back problems so he was also off sick for weeks
Eldest son then went off for 6 weeks pre deployment training in mid August.

So with these distractions I didn't fully really realise what was happening to my Dad at first.
One week I went to see him, he was in good form, talking about his sister and looking at photos and all very normal and chatting away.
Next week he was complaining about the ulcer on his foot and so he had took to his bed. He was living in a nursing home and they did there best to care for him but he just completely shut down, blanked us and the world out - refused to speak or answer or take part in conversations, he wouldn't drink, ignored his food, just lay flat on his bed and this went on for weeks and weeks, firstly we thought it was attention seeking as dad though someone should do something about the foot even though he had been told it was untreatable
Then in September the doctor had various concerns so he was taken into hospital onto a very nice ward and he perked up - we wondered if he had engineered this as he really wanted to be in hospital, he was eating again, he was drinking and asking for water , he couldn't speak very well as he had a mouth ulcer but when I went to see him a few days later he was listening to me, looking at photos, and he was very lucid and taking notice of his surroundings,
That was a Thursday. Eldest son finished his course on Friday and then they flew out to Afghan on Saturday, start of a 6 month tour of duty, no leave.
Sunday morning we got a call from the hospital, Dad had had his porridge and then just slipped away - he'd decided it was time.

Hi yes it is. Past the Racecourse and when you reach the shops on your right it's the second turning on the right.:D . I don t drink so not bothered about those lol. I like choccy and cake. They ve rolled out a new cake now a chocolate fudge cake one.

Have you all checked your emails for £10 off a £20 spend ? in my case, Dawn had a £10 off a £35 spend. There s also a little hut by J Lewis's where you can take old clothes and shoes for a small amount of money.

We have been going up to Liverpool mainly - we have passes so it just as easy to go on the train :)
( also been to southampton, Newcastle and the shiny new Jl in York - only got one set left now so I don't suppose we will ever experience the wonder of Jl in Edinburgh or Chester :()

groupon sent one of my emails 15% and the other £10 off £20 - so I've got to give some serious thoughts - everything on my saved list is livingsocial though :)

Yes the shiny York JL only opened in April - it's at the back of the Monks Cross shopping place but its on another one called Vangarde - we tried and failed to find a way onto it so in the end we went round in a huge circuit, through an estate and back round - I don't know if we were just being particularly stupid :D

There is also a vast Marks next to it and several eating places - Prezzo if you have the free 241 Hi Life card, Eds Easy diner - free burger if you register and use yopmail, Costa and Giraffee.
