Laser Eye Treatment- Costs and Quick Review

Hi all,
Thought I'd just share my two quotes for laser eye surgery.
Background I'm 40+, Left eye -2.0, Right Eye -3.0.
I had two consultations in Reading. Both companies suggest Lasik Intralase (eye flap is created with a laser) treatment with either Wavefront (Optimax) or Idesign (Optical Express). After lots of goggling, there doesn't appear much difference between Wavefront and Idesign, probably just a marketing name for the same procedure.
Optimax quote was £2392 (total for both eyes)
Optical Express quote was £2999, £2799 after haggling (total for both eyes)
I felt slightly more comfortable with the Optical Express consultation and care, but the key point was treatment dates + they could treat me on the date I wanted in August. Optimax dates didn't work for me until late September. I would have been ok using Optimax if they had good dates.
Anyway- even though Optical Express said their treatment was better and they wouldn't discount or price match. Their retention team called me when I got home, and they knocked another £200 off the treatment. Still £400 more then Optimax, but I just wanted to get it done. Got 18 Months 0% APR finance.
Had the treatment on Thursday morning in Reading. Very fast service, almost too fast. I arrived 15 mins late because of train issues. Had my eye scan 5 mins after I arrived, waited for 5 min, saw the surgeon for ~7 mins (he checked my eyes), I asked one question. Waited for another 5 mins, then called for surgery. Had the surgery ~10mins in the room. Then in the recovery room for ~10 mins, while the nurse explained the eye drops I need to use. On my way home after just over 1 hour.
Recovery has been excellent. Had a checkup 24 hours later- all ok.
I would say my eyes were 95% after 24 hours, almost 100% after 48 hours. :rotfl:
There is an Optical Express referral scheme were I get £100 per referral that goes ahead with treatment. PM me if you want details. You'll need a code BEFORE you attend your first consultation. I'll return £50 to you when I get the £100 from Optical Express.
My advice- Research your treatment, shop around, don't be afraid to ask for discount.
