Friday 15th August: What small DFW things will you be doing today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are importa

Morning MMM, and thanks for starting the thread :)

Up at 5.30 (for some reason!) so quite good progress already.

    So far I have:

    Cleaned out chickens

Tidied up the garden a bit and put away garden chairs not being used and some gardening tools that had been left out.

Washed up and shone sink fly-lady stylee. I have one of those big white ones and it looks awful if I don't clean it every day :o

Cleaned out bread crock as the crumbs in the bottom go mouldy if not done regularly, and that turns the fresh bread mouldy  As long as I keep it clean though it keeps the bread really well.

Dusted and sorted out bookshelf and put away books. I also found an old Observer book for my sales unit and a couple of paperbacks for the CS.

First load of washing on the line, second in the machine and third waiting. I really hope it doesn't piddle down with rain again today :(All done, last load on the line

    Still to do:

[STRIKE]Bit of paperwork to sort [/STRIKE] Done

Make OH sort out his business receipts etc instead of leaving them on the side

Bit more hoovering and dusting Done

Collect dry cleaning, pay in a cheque, take back library books. I will have to take the car as the dry cleaning consists of 3 heavy coats and I don't fancy carrying them all the way home from town on foot. Done except for the dry cleaning. Walked in the end.

[STRIKE]While out, visit sales unit, take a couple of new bits in.[/STRIKE] Done, some bits have sold, so happy with that.

Make and freeze a batch of tomato puree from the ripest of the 3 large bowls of tomatoes that are staring accusingly at me

    [STRIKE]Freeze some runner beans[/STRIKE] Done

Easy tea tonight - I did penne and bolognese last night, and cooked extras of both. Later I will mix both together, top with some grated cheese and a few breadcrumbs and heat in the oven (while the tomatoes are roasting) till it is really hot and the top is crispy. We will have that with salad (take that, tomatoes!)

    Babysit for DD this evening

    Right, better get on :D

  • Hello all, Happy Friday :T

Today I am at work, earning not spending. OH gave me a lift in - am hoping he remembers to collect me as they lock up and chuck me out at 4pm.

Breakfast at home and packed lunch. Going to a friends for dinner later. Need to get a bottle of wine to take but have some vouchers (and I remembered to put them in my purse!) so will be a small spend.

Have checked bank accounts - all fine.

Starting to plan budget with no/lower contribution from son1. Have been reading some of the tips on the OS board - it's always the food budget that we struggle with. Have also been nagging him about claiming job seekers allowance. No doubt he won't do this unless we do it with him.....

Need to catch son2 before he spends his wages (he gets paid every Friday) as he owes me £20. He can be very elusive.

Laundry is drying indoors - hate this sunshine and showers weather - wish it would make up it's mind!

    Best wishes all x
  • I'm having a work day (although due to cancellations, mine and students, I'm earning the grand total of £15), so a cheap day.

Cleaning the kitchen after I've finished editing this video. I want it back to the state I managed to get it in yesterday!

Pizza Hut tonight but that's a budgeted thing so OK :)

Borrowing a high spec laptop instead of upgrading mine to do this editing. Nice, too! With some pro software I can only dream of...

Cancelled night out because I have a slight cold but am feeling a bit too rough and asthmatic for shenanigans, so savings there.

    Happy Friday!

In our house, when things break, we just pretend they still work

    Hello Campers,
Rather a routine day for me today, but a few money saving bits & bobs nevertheless:
*Saved energy by sharing bathtub & loading washer for an overnight wash on cheap tariff.
*Cleaned whole house using minimal products.
*Watered greenhouse & inspected veggie garden.
*Binned a Waitrose voucher which came in the post....it almost lured me into a £100 shop for £15 off, but we can save more than £15 by shopping around in our usual tenacious manner.....not that I don't use Waitrose as I do, but we really do spread our food budget around these days, & get a lot more for it.
    *Did some surveys.
*Make a note of voucher code (have won another £5 Amazon voucher for contributions to an online forum I'm on at the moment). Used the last £20's worth for books for the present box. Might donate this one to mr f as he's such a reformed character with his money these days....never thought I'd see the day, as he used to be even worse than me!!
    *Pick more tomatoes.
*Brave the depths of the fridge salad drawer to assess exactly how tomatoey things are looking. i.e Is it Very Tomatoey? Extremely Tomatoey? or More Tomatoey than I Could Ever Have Imagined? Deal with items in there that need using. Think we also have peppers which need slicing & freezing for meals next week, rather than wasting them.
*All free leisure today: recorded TV prog, start new library book, listen to audiobook, etc.
*Sew up hat & make pom-pom.
*Pack a couple of little snacks for tomorrow when we're at a chilli festival. Treating ourselves to lunch out, & might buy one or two bits from the stalls, but I'm not planning on going mad with me cash! (This month's 'Personal Spends' have to last until 27th Aug!)
*Dig out the BBQ stuff we froze last time. mr f fancies a BBQ tomorrow night & if all this stuff is defrosted, there'll be no excuse to buy anything else.
    *Make bread.
    Have a good Friday, everyone,
    f x
