Thu 14th Aug: What small DFW things will you be doing today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:

    Morning DFW-Jedis,

Been of the grid for a while having a Holiday at Home, well Holiday in the Libraries/Museums really, researching my and my OH's ancestry.

    The List

    :starmod: Check online banking. Done.

:starmod: Do the ironing. Turn off the iron for the last two garments.

    :starmod: Check Nectar AdPoints. Done.

:starmod: Do i-Say surveys. Done. Nearly enough points for a £10 Amazon or Farmfoods voucher.

:starmod: Washed bedding out on the line before the rain sets in. Damn! OH accidentally washed cream linen with brown apron. Argh. Stains removed with cheap stain remover granules, hot water and a quick rinse wash.

:starmod: Entertainment will be watching NCIS DVDs.

:starmod: Go for a run locally. Free exercise.

:starmod: Make more use of local library. They do cheap DVD rental and free audio story rental as well as book loan, free PC use and free WiFi. Yesterday I used the free WiFi to download upgrades to my phone and to download two BBC comedy podcasts, plus checking my email without it going on my phone/broadband bill. Plus I can get access to some family history sites for free there. (Link)

:starmod: Do free physio on dodgy arm.

    News:

:starmod: eBay listing prices go up from today. (Link)

    Freebies:

:starmod: Free Cinema Tickets through TopCashBack. Can be used in conjunction with EE/Orange Wednesday tickets too: (Link)

    Offers:

Well that's me for today. Good luck on your quests, Jedis.

  • Hello All!

Am back home after 3 days helping my elderly parents to move house. They lived in the same house for 55 years, never throw anything away, hadn't exchanged contracts until the move day......but we got there in the end.

At work today, earning not spending. Have checked bank accounts - all fine.

Paid TalkTalk bill early to get 15% discount (first time we've done this and must find the post on here that told us about it to say thank you).

All meals from home. Son1 has made a veggie chilli concoction in the slow cooker.

Think I'll phone home and ask the boys to put the laundry out - the sun has come out :T.

    Best wishes all x

    Hi,
Wasn't going to post today because I've spent more or less all day gardening, but then I thought how actually, ALL of that was money saving as it's looking after the remaining food crops that are growing out there.
*Tamed the greenhouse which included tidying up & re-staking aubergines, tall chillies & tomatoes & sorting out the cucumber plants. All are still producing, but the chillier nights will soon slow that down. Still, am doing my best to keep them from sulking at the moment :-)
*Rolled sleeves up, loins girded for tackling a butternut squash plant that's gone rogue. It's been knocked into submission now. My best squash fell off, but there are other tiny ones coming. May get one or two yet. Not a reliable crop here, but hey, it was free seed!
    *Weeded leek bed.
*Tied back mr f's potato beds which are encroaching on 'my' stuff. Noticed he's crossed 'potatoes' off the shopping list so he's obviously planning to lift these imminently.
*Potted on some baby pansy plants for autumn containers. (Free seed)
*Found 3 baby lavender plants I grew from seed last year & had completely forgotten about. The pots were on their sides under a hedge! They are now getting lots of tlc, as had actually thought about buying some (steady on, was the 'b' word, there!!) in the spring.
*Gathered a bucket of windfall apples.
*Picked more of my neighbour's invading blackberries.
*Cut a couple of bolted lettuces before they go past the edible stage. I usually make soup with them, but have very little space in the freezer.
Other bits & bobs: Did a few surveys, did next week's meal plans, did exercise DVD for free fitness, wrote shopping list & will endeavour to finish knitting hat this evening.
Tomorrow is my big weekly cleaning day....I can't believe that a whole week has gone by since the last time.

    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!
  • Evening all!

I got up a bit late today - OH had to take me into work. This is what happens if you go to bed 2 hours after your normal bed time!

    Normal list from me today:

    • B/L/D from stores
    • Charge phone in work
    • Overtime (zzzz)
    • Walking home
    • erm... nsd!
    • Bit of crochet if I'm home at a decent hour
    • Do something with the mince in the fridge. If home at a decent hour, cook it, if not, freeze it!
    • Go to bed at a more sensible time
Very boring I'm afraid. Have a good evening :)

Thanks for starting the thread Ally.

Feeling a bit envious of those of you who have been gardening as it keeps persisting down with rain here in the not so sunny SW, and I got drenched just picking the [STRIKE]triffids[/STRIKE] I mean runner beans!

    Other than that I have:

Checked online banks to ensure I don't need to move money to pay for a couple of ebay purchases I made last night. All needed and planned for, so no guilt trip :) and the balance of OH's recent fishing trip (his share of the expenses after the fuel, which he paid for, is deducted. Owed to friend. I must remind him to pop over with the money or a cheque, as his memory is like a sieve

Fed chooks, 2 eggs today :) Must eat some eggs as they are piling up!

Visited a local town to go to the market and mooch around charity shops - OH's idea. Didn't spend much, just a couple of loaves of bread, some loo rolls and some socks for OH off the market, nothing spent in the CS (it is all glamour here, as you can see :rotfl:)

Made a bolognese, adding loads of vegetables. Inauthentic but very tasty, and enough for 2 meals for the 2 of us :D

Feeling a bit Migrainey (if that is a word) today, so not much else done :o

    Still to do:

    Prepare and freeze runner beans

Think what to do with the 3 large bowls of cherry tomatoes that are staring accusingly at me  I think I will roast them with a bit of garlic, put them through the mouli and freeze the resulting puree :D That is a job for tomorrow though!

Ugh, it has just started raining AGAIN. At least I don't need to water I suppose....
  • Good evening all

I haven't been up to too much DFWing today:

    * Tried to drive slightly more sensibly to work to save on petrol
    * Sorted out my envelopes for budgeting as have had some time to learn what works and doesn't so far
    * Having a free chat with the overseas OH on the internet
    * Contemplating a cheap weekend break!

    Sx
I have enough money for the rest of my life... as long as I never have to pay for anything again!
