Money-off Coupon Codes...What does 912 mean?

Options
Hi
When I was using the self scan in Tescos it refused to take two coupons. I've noticed that the bar codes both start with 912 - does this mean that I have to buy the product? Is it this clever? At least if I know then I wont embarrass myself trying to get a cashier to take them!

Thanks

Don't know if this is relevent but a very helpful person on these boards (sorry, can't rememebr who now) said to always check the last 3/4 digits of the bar code on the back of the coupon. Excluding the very last digit, these tell you what the coupon will scan at, if they are 0 then the item must be purchased & the cost of the item, up to the max value of the coupon, manually entered. If for example to bar code ends 450678 then the coupon is worth 67p & should scan for that regardless. If the bar code ends 450008 then it won't scan for a set amount & the value needs to be manaully entered on purchase. The rule seems to be that if the value on the bar code is 0 then you have to buy the product to redeem the coupon. However, some supermarkts have their own policies on redeeming coupons and may have software to catch non-purchase coupons or something.

Probably not what you were looking for but might help?

For money off look out for 99 at the start of the barcode- otherwise it might be a "have to purchase" item.
