Lowells and £30 claim

This must seem trivial, but here goes. Lowells are chasing this amount as a cancellation charge for a car policy. It was a mistake as a policy was cancelled and re-broked with the same underwriters although a different company.. Post Office and then M&S. I disputed the charge and was told if I sent back the old cert of insurance they would waive any charges. I did this but then got a claim for the £30 from a DCA called CARS. Eventually I spoke to the Post Office credit control who said the claim would be lifted. This was done and CARS closed their claim. However the underwriters have re issued this claim via Lowells. The question I have is that if the account was closed, can they now start again with Lowells ?

I have correspondence from Post Office first one saying no cancellation fee and then letter 2 saying there is.

Seems like Lowells are going to a lot of bother over this, and endless e mails asking for proof that the cert was sent back.

Any Ideas how I should proceed ? As alway any replies appreciated

    Hi struggler

Sounds like you have been given a lot of mixed messages over this one. I would suggest that as you have correspondence from Post Office stating that no cancellation fee would apply, you should send (a copy of) this to Lowell and argue that you quite reasonably took the Post Office letter/email at face value. If Lowell still push you for payment, you may want to point out that having such a letter might weaken their case if they were to take it further.

It might seem strange that they kick up such a fuss over £30, but after a while nothing surprises you anymore...
