Wednesday 13th Aug - What small DFW things will you be doing today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:

Morning all!
Got home at the far more reasonable hour of 8.15 last night
Short list from me before shower and work etc- B/L/D from stores
- Wash out by dehumidifier
- Charge phone in work
- Check online banking - good, everything has caught up with itself
- Go to retail park at lunchtime to look for new cushion pad for wedding gift - original supplied one is really lumpy and nasty.
- Collect shower water for plants (not that they will need it in this weather!)
- Overtime
- Read Martin's email
- Pay the window cleaner
I got a very exciting veg box yesterday which has borlotti beans and tomatillos in! If anyone has any tried and tested recipes, I'd be grateful
Have a good one all

Morning CLF and everyone who comes along later

Grandma day for me today - I look after baby GD on Wednesdays while her Mum is at work. DD wanted to avoid nursery (and the fees) so she and her OH both work 3 days and I look after baby one day a week and we sort of manage it between us
So I won't get much done today. She crawls and is into everything :rotfl:
I will pop back later and update on anything I manage to achieve!0 -
Morning! I'm chained to a borrowed laptop all day today editing a student concert. (Mine is too low spec to cope, and this means I don't have to invest in upgrading...,very MSE)

I can't see myself being spendy spendy today, I won't have a chance!
Meals are from meal plan and lunch is from cupboards
In our house, when things break, we just pretend they still work0 -
Hello hello, hope you don't mind a newbie.
*Currently charging my phone in work
*Called to cancel an item I'd ordered yesterday (moved some furniture last night & realised it wasn't needed) so £20 charge on my card was cancelled.
*lunch was homemade soup - made a batch to do me all week with a wee roll 12 for £1 in supermarket
*Dinner will be leftovers from last nights homemade chicken fried rice. Enough for both of us too.
*Check bank account against spreadsheet - all bills are out YAY
I think it'll be an early night, after GBBF, of course. I've a headache I can't shift.0 -
:wave:Afternoon everyone!
Back to work, work & work some more mode again... juts keep thinking of the money and smile.
Watched the new Planet of the Apes movie last night- really good film if anybody is interested. All snacks / drinks from store and got special Tuesday price of just £3 each. :T
Today's small savings include:
:starmod:B/L/D from freezer / stores- tonight we have YS mince pie, YS baby potatoes and a tin of value sweetcorn- £1.70 for an evening meal for 3 of us is good going. Evening snacks / baby dog's diner from my evening job.
:starmod:Try to get an energy monitor free / very cheap- submited electricy meter reading and took my time and look at our usage / cost online-
in April 14 we used £110 worth of electricity in a month - !!!!!!!!! Our monthly DD / average is £60-65 - I realy need to get on the top of this, hate to waste money/electricity . My suspition is my daughters loooooong showers with our electric shower- last week I had to scream at her to get out of the shower after 25 minutes!!!!!! Not happy, but WILL sort it! I phoned our electricity supplier and they don't do them, bit disapointed.
:starmod:Hunt for YS food in my lunch break- usual spots are my local garage and Co-op.
That's my list for now, will keep reading throughout the day, hope you all have a good day!

Happy Wednesday all
Today is my day off so I get to feel productive, albeit slightly bored around now before my second wind comes in!
* Load of laundry on a quick wash then will be hung to dry indoors as grey cloud outside can't be trusted!
* Have been to Mr T, within budget, picked up 2 x birthday presents from town, within budget, and went to the library for a couple of books, free!!
* Office and bathroom cleaned, onto the bedroom when the laundry is done so I can throw the bed sheets in!
* Just checked and realised I have a full week of annual leave left to book by March, thought it was only one day :rotfl:
Quick Q DFWers - Do you have a window cleaner and what cost is appropriate for this? We have upstairs windows on all four sides and I don't fancy balancing up a ladder to clean them all!!
Have a good one all xI have enough money for the rest of my life... as long as I never have to pay for anything again!

We have a semi (with 4 windows upstairs) and pay £7 per month, if that's help?
You could ask your neighbours and see who they use and how much do they pay?

Ours is £11 every 6 weeks. Our house is a terrace with 4 first floor windows and we also have a back porch thing (it is not posh enough to call a conservatory
) that is glazed from half way up, if that makes sense, and has a perspex roof which he also cleans. He doesn't go up ladders, but uses an extension hose thing fed from a big tank in his van. Seems to do the trick, and is pleasant, so we are happy with that. The only ones I have to do (outside) are the velux ones in the loft extension, and they kind of turn inside out so I can do them from inside - I am not about to climb out onto the steeply pitched roof to do them  If that was necessary, they would have to stay dirty! :rotfl:
Baby was hard work today as she is teething, and also wants to stand up all the time and is not very good at it yet
Still, I have been so busy running around after her that I haven't spent anything
All meals from stores,
Picked 2 bowls full of tomatoes to go with the bowlful I already had
The runner beans need picking but will have to wait as it it has just poured with rain and they are so awkward to get at that it is like being devoured by a triffid at the best of times  I would get soaked!
Dog walked with baby earlier when we went to feed the ducks at the river earlier
Early night for me I think!0 -
Sunshine - We don't pay for a window cleaner. We bought a very long handled pole with window cleaning attachment from 'Bettaware' years ago & although I think it was designed for cleaning conservatory roofs but it reaches our upstairs windows so we use that.
F x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
I pay £10 a month for ours. We have 4 windows at the front, a door and patio doors and 2 windows at the back.LBM 11/06/2010: DFD 30/04/2013Total repaid: £10,490.310
