Does anybody know of any places that offer grants for new business? And any places that would give free help with showing how to do the HMRC forms

The "Go For IT" programme will help you with all the admin side of things, such as HMRC, VAT, PAYE etc... but good luck with getting grants ... this is of course unless you're under 30 & eligible for the Princes Trust

There are lots of enterprise agencies about that can give you all the info you need0 -
Depends on the business. Is it going to be export focused? There are grants available for exporters.0
