FTB Mortgage application Question

I'm looking to buy a house on my own in about a years time. I only want to spend about 100k on my first house and I have a decent deposit.
Is it worth me applying for a mortgage now to see if I get accepted or not? My credit file is showing as good, with only one default for £74 back in 2009.
I am just curious if they would let me have one now, I probably wouldn't go through with it at this early stage...and I understand the search would drop off my credit file in a year anyway?

Not worth doing anything now.
The whole world can change in a year.
