Car Hire

I'm looking to hire a car for 5 days. Thrifty seem to be the cheapest I can find. Does anyone have a promotional code for these or can anyone suggest a cheaper company.

Many thanks

    Hi Bykerlass,

I ALWAYS use Enterprise and have found them to be really decent and reasonable. I always order the lowest possible model and i never get the lower model when i collect. I always pre-order/book online as its cheaper but you need to do it in advance to get a cheap price.

We just dropped our hire car off this morning, ordered a Ford Ka for two weeks cost £150 and when we arrived we got a VW GT with additional driver added on free, always ask if they do a deal, when i first asked about the additional driver she quoted £10 a day, i asked if there was any deals she could offer and she asked if it was for my partner and added him free.

Take proof of ID with you and your license (they dont need both parts, they can phone DVLA). They also take £150 as a deposit but refund you when you return, i think you have to pay by credit card (not sure about debit card) for security, dont quote me on that though as i always pay using this (but i always pay it off! DFW in training i am!)

I never take out the extra insurance policy either but thats your decision to make with whatever company you decide to go with.

Good luck and i hope you get a good price.

    Hi Sugarhoney1

Thanks for the advice. I think I will go with Enterprise like you suggested. My OH has used them quite a bit for business and had no problem so it seems to make sense. Hope I get a good upgrade too. Will let you know the outcome.

    Hi,
I want to rent a car but I have never done that before. Can you please give me some advise?
I am always afraid that they have hidden charges. Is the price that appears when you search for a car, the final price? Or are there any other fees? I have made a search and it appeared a car for 18.59GBP a day. Is that the real price(+VAT)?

    Thank you very much,
    Alexandra

    Hi afm,

I can only give you advice regarding Enterprise, ALWAYS shop around, i have always found them to be the best price/service for ME.

The price you have quoted is the 'real price'. I've never had any other charges added when dealing with Enterprise, they do charge for 'extra's' but you can refuse these if you dont need them, extra driver and added insurance so that you dont have any excess. But if you need an extra driver then ask nicely if they have any deals.

As i stated previously..... You need to leave a deposit, Enterprise need payment of £150 and its needs to be a credit card (unsure if a debit card would suffice)

If you book far in advance then i notice its cheaper and even the girls in the office have commented on how cheap it is and how its much cheaper 'booking' online and its very easy to do.

Any other questions then dont hesitate to ask, i'll do my best to help.

    Oh.... forgot to add,

When/if you hire a car they (Enterprise, not sure about others) have a pick up/drop off service, where they can come collect you, take you to pick up your car and then drop you off when you take the car back. Found it to be very handy! and its all included in the price. Excellent service!

    Hi,

following your tip about the quidco I have tried to join it. However, I read that there's a £5 fee per year. Do you pay any fee? I didn't understand if I had to pay it or if I only have to pay in the case I earn £5 or more.

    Thanks for the tips :)
