Letter received re debt from 2011

Hi All
I have received a letter from Rockwell re a debt with HSBC from 2007. As far as I am aware the debt was paid off in 2011 - long story but in a nutshell I got a loan for an ex - he assured me he had paid it off in 2011, I didn't hear anything else from them and was busy being pregnant therefore didn't check too closely - not hearing anything though put my mind at rest that it had been paid.
Anyway, it looks like it hasn't, so what is my best course of action? Do I offer a repayment plan? Its for £4k and I'm a single parent so it won't be a massive amount each month. Am I right in thinking though that as long as I am offering something I won't get the bailiffs etc coming around? I was thinking around the £10 per month mark
Thanks all

Before you make any payment or put anything in writing, check whether it could be statute-barred. I am afraid that you will need to spend a bit of time reading the information available elsewhere on this site.

Found the statute barred info - I am fairly sure I made a payment in 2011 though so guess I am exempt from this - !!!!!!!

I would first respond with a CCA request to the DCA.
This is a request for a copy of the original credit agreement, approx. when was the loan taken out ? was it prior to April 2007 ?, it could help your case if they are not able to produce the required paperwork, you may be able to negotiate a better deal with them.
