If you're going to Ikea then get some Billy bookcases while you're there

Well I'm trying to decide whether to do that or not. At the moment I mainly read eBooks so don't desperately need to unpack them as I have heaps to read on my Kindle. Also I'm hoping to get a carpenter to come and do some built in shelves around the fireplace at some point.Starting Mortgage Balance: £264,800 (8th Aug 2014)

I survived my trip to Ikea today and managed to only buy items I actually went to buy, although was almost tempted to buy some other bits and pieces but I really didn't need them.
I don't have a car so everything is being delivered tomorrow morning then I'll have the fun job of putting it all together. I actually don't mind doing things like that so actually looking forward to it.
I've also order a desk from Argos as I work from home a lot and really need one and I think that's all the furniture I need to buy at the moment. Although thinking I might buy some new bedsheets as I've been wanting to get a new set for awhile.
I hope everyone's enjoying the bank holiday weekend.Starting Mortgage Balance: £264,800 (8th Aug 2014)

Well I managed to put all the flat pack furniture together I also ended up buying a desk from Argos as I work at home a lot and is so much better than sitting on the couch with my laptop!
I think I didn't do too bad a job although I slightly damaged one of the chairs as I didn't notice the different size screws, I was wondering why one was so hard to put in, it turns out it was too long for where it was!
It's not going to be an overly MSE week as I'm having a house warming finally. I wanted one when I first moved in but it didn't feel right to have it until I owned the place I just never thought that would be almost 12 months after I moved in until that happened! So I've been spending money on drinks and food and fretting over whether I have too much/not enough! The good thing is I've been working from home all week so have been making my own lunches and dinner rather than buying lunch and getting take aways so that's saving me a little money.Starting Mortgage Balance: £264,800 (8th Aug 2014)

Well done on surviving Ikea without extra spending, I am very impressed. And doing the flatpacks unscathed too. The desk is a good investment, I work from home every now and then and just have the dining room table and whilst it's alright for the odd day I do find it a tiny bit too high for comfort. I have to sit on a cushion which makes me feel like a 5 year old.
I do like WFH for the side effects - I find I have to clean and tidy up before I can work as the clutter distracts me. Not sure it is just about procrastinating though! I also have to watch out what's in the fridge or it all gets scoffed down, so not really very MSE or weight watchtery.Mortgage September 2014 £229,372 (Fixed for 2 years to Sept 2016 @ 2.49% = £1310 per month)

Hi London18, I really should have bought the desk ages ago as I work from home every Monday and Friday and it's not unusual for me to have whole weeks at home like I'm doing this week. It's definitely making a difference to my back!
I agree about WFH not being very weight watchery as I felt a little hungry earlier and just grabbed an ice cream out of the fridge and still want something more to snack on! Hmm might have to be carefully what I keep in the house so I'm not tempted!!!Starting Mortgage Balance: £264,800 (8th Aug 2014)

Well I've had a busy day today. I had my new fridge delivered and the handyman came and removed the section of the kitchen bench so I can fit the taller fridge freezer in. I was a bit worried it might be a bit too big but I must have measured well as it fits perfectly. I can still access the light switch which I was a bit worried about and all the cupboard doors are still able to be opened
It's still not a massive fridge freezer but is better than the old under counter one I used to have. Also now I have more freezer space I can start doing some batch cooking which I wasn't able to do before with such a tiny freezer space.
So this afternoon instead of working like I was meant to I've been wiping the new fridge out as apparently you are meant to before turning it on. Thrown all the packaging out (I couldn't believe how much there was!). I've also done a quick clean of the kitchen. The handy man did a pretty good job of cleaning up after himself but there a still a bit of dust in some areas.
Now I need to:
- Have lunch! Just realised I haven't had anything yet no wonder I feel hungry!!
- Put a load of washing on.
- Vacuum the floors
- Use the new storage containers I've bought to put things I don't use all the time in the eaves storage space.
Then it's just hope Ocado deliver everything I ordered and I'll be all prepped and ready for my house warming tomorrow!Starting Mortgage Balance: £264,800 (8th Aug 2014)

Well my house warming went really well on Saturday although I over catered so have lots of leftovers to use up this week. I also have lots of bottles of wine that weren't opened but a friend is having a housewarming this weekend so will probably take them along to her party. I've got a few friends who bought places this summer so I seem to have a few house warmings to go to at the moment.
Also earlier in my diary I mentioned when I was updating my budget I seem to have spent £10 but had no record what I spent it on. Well it turns out I didn't spend it as I found the money in a pair of jeans this weekend I just hadn't worn them for a while. I was a bit stumped by it at the time so glad I've solved that little mystery!
I finally have my lodger moving in this weekend and just need to organise her room this week. I've still got a few things of mine in there at the moment so main job is to get all my stuff out of the room and then the furniture arrives on Friday so hopefully everything arrives as expected.Starting Mortgage Balance: £264,800 (8th Aug 2014)

Well I still haven't sorted out my lodgers room but hopefully will do that tonight. I have however managed to get rid of my old fridge. Turns out my next door neighbour was looking for a fridge for the garden office he built in his yard earlier this year. I wasn't sure what to do with it so glad I've managed to get rid of it so easily. He's due to come and pick it up tonight.
However the big thing I did today was finally go to HSBC to talk about some account charges I've been seeing on my business bank account. I suddenly was being charged £6/month more than I had been previously and seems when I changed my internet banking payment limit I accidentally set up international payments at the same time which I don't need. So I've now got rid of the international payments option and been told if I call the Business Banking telephone line I should be able to get the fees I have paid to date refunded
Also realised today I need to start thinking about what I want to bulk cook now that I have a bigger freezer. It's something I used to do years ago but as I've only had a minuscule freezer for the last 8 years I can't really remember what I used to make.
