The difference in taste is probably not adding salt but we have never added salt and it doesn't taste overly different if anything nicer in the steamer.

We also have an electric one as it is great as just whack the timer on and you don't need to do anything to it.

Cooks lovely boiled rice too and no burnt out pans as I tend to forget I'm cooking some things until the smoke alarm reminds me!

I miss my old steamer even frozen vegetables came up lovely, the only thing I avoided was cabbage which I prefer boiled.
One of the advantages of the steamer is that you can just bung in a handfull of your choice into the tray - I like parsnips/onions etc but hubby would have some sprouts if you see what I mean.
I've never tried rice though I can even ruin a boil in the bag one.

Hiya, I have an electric steamer. It is BRILIANT :0)
Long gone is the time of boiling veg and spuds in a pan.

I prepare the veg and put the timer on for half an hour. Pings when time up. It is out on the counter and gets used often.
I also put frozen veg in with the fresh veg.
    Easy to wash.

I take my steamer on sc holidays - caravan in UK. So quick and easy to have fresh veg and put some meat dish in the oven.
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)

I love my steamer (electric) and find the veg tastes better. I suspect if it tastes of nothing it has been overcooked.

Thoroughly recommend them. Just don't put the baskets in the dishwasher as they go brittle quicker.

Love the fact you can turn it on and just leave it until it's finished.

I steam veggies in the microwave in a microwave steamer.

My sibling is super-picky about how food is cooked and has got an electric 3-tier steamer - and is more than happy/prefers Christmas dinner veggies to be cooked in that rather than in pans of water.

Steamed veggies retain flavour, rather than having it leave the water/pan and make the room stink :)

We have a cheap steamer insert which we use with our existing pan. I think veggies like broccoli and cauliflower taste better steamed than boiled, and you can always finish them off in a pan with a little bit of butter after:o

I too have the Argoose one and think its my second favourite item apart from my Remoska.I use it daily and wouldn't be without it.Saves time and money as you can cook several things on the one hot plate Whats not to like :):) the veg cooks quicker and as I live alone I can cook just the right amount (a handful) for me.With the glas lid on top it stops the 'veggie smell as well.easy to wash and at a tenner with change a bargain. If your short on time (I'm normally just want veg with my dinner when I get in from taking care of my DGS) its great as within 10 minutes you have the veg to go with your meal I too don't use salt with veg as I think it makes the veg lose flavour.I also have a microwave steamer that I use just for fish and its great(that too stops the smells) I can have a salmon fillet, brocolli and carrots within 15 minutes of arriving home healtier, cheaper and quicker than a ready meal (tastier as well.) I'd say go for it.Doesn't take up much more room than an ordinary saucepan either.Best tenner I have spent
  • A 3 tier electric steamer is a MUST for me - it cooks all the veg and doesn`t boil dry!

We have a steamer for our hob, we often put potatoes on the bottom if we are cooking quick veg. We very rarely cook any vegetables in water, no matter how you cook veg, if it is over done it will be tasteless.

I have had an electric steamer for years, bought at a car boot sale for a few quid. It's brilliant for one person as you can just throw in a few spuds, add carrots a little later, brocolli or whatever exactly according to your taste. I think it's actually more efficient for one or two people actually as mine struggles to cook large quantities, but like me, it is old! One thing nobody has mentioned is that it saves lifting all those heavy pans of boiling water, so not only does it save your thumb joints it is definitely safer. I am looking out for a replacement for mine now as the nob has 'gone' and I have to activate it with pliers!
