Pension Bill 2014 that introduced law Flat Rate (Single Tier) Pension from 2016 reduces state pension in many ways.
Pension Credit (savings), State Earnings Related Pension Scheme and State Second Pension end, so no triple lock guarantee of rises for those additional pensions, and less pension that would have been expected.

You got me worried, I am male and was born in:j1952 and retire in 2017 and my state pension age is 65 and i've recently applied for the Winter Fuel Payment and should get my payment by Christmas -:xmassign: is it politically correct to be quoting Christmas on a :whistle:Government Website in this day and age.0 -
True. For this purpose the ideal immigrants are skilled and/ or well educated with a few young children and a plan to have lots more. That's because the children will grow up here and be likely to stick around and be tax payers during the time of peak dependency ratio stress. But the dependency ratio also has to allow for school-age children, and for adults who draw doles, so if you choose the wrong immigrants you can make things worse, not better.0 -

I disagree: large numbers of young children only add to the taxpayer's liabilities until they leave school or university. Ideally you'd like people arriving with triplets of eighteen and twins of nineteen who are all going to go to work and pay tax, and none of whom will have sprogs until they are pushing forty.Free the dunston one next time too.0 -
The peak dependency ratio is around 2050 so young children are of use and likely to stay around.
If you could get the same stickiness with eighteen and nineteen year olds I'd agree but I think they won't be as likely to stay here when their taxes will be most needed. Come 2050 the eighteen year olds will be in their peak earning and tax paying years so that would be more useful than the younger children,if they stick around.0 -
Anybody that has contracted out of SERPS during their employment years will not receive the maximum pension and they must also have 35 years of NI contributions. Few will qualify for the max IMO as pro rata deductions are made for various reasons including the two examples I gave above. :eek:0

I filled the online form and printed off and sent by post, I sent a copy of my birth certificate as evidence and this was returned to me within 7 days. Don't forget to ask for a free certificate of postage as proof that you sent the application form, they don't acknowledge receipt of form, they just return your birth certificate.

Anyone who has been not contracted for a number of years with a reasonable salary level and is now approaching SPA has a chance of getting the full single tier pension and maybe a bit more. If you have a current pension forecast of more the £144 or so this gets you the full amount irrespective of any contracting out.Cyberman60 wrote: »Anybody that has contracted out of SERPS during their employment years will not receive the maximum pension and they must also have 35 years of NI contributions. In my case I have been contracted out for around half of my working life (still contracted out by a DB scheme!) and my current pension looks to be around £165 or more because of the SERPS/S2P accumulated in the 80s.
