Help Stuck in Golf Links Holiday Home Park- nightmare!!!!

We are starting our first night of a week long stay in the Golf Links holiday home park. There are 3 families staying in 3 caravans beside each other as this has now become an annual get together. Unfortunately we are unable to get to sleep as the noise from the adjacent night club is so bad we cannot hear ourselves think. We can't even listen to the Tv as the noise is so loud. It is complemented by the sound of boy racers. We are three families with young kids. We think the nightclub is open most nights and there is a A level night advertised on Thursday. So effectively we have all come for our family holiday without the chance of getting a night's sleep. We are all so disheartened and disappointed that we just want to pack up and leave. We were really looking forward to this break but a week without sleep is too much. Anyone any ideas for what we can do? I have emailed Environmental Health in Coleraine Borough Council. We will try the office in the caravan park tomorrow I am just worried they will turn round and say: "tough". They clearly know that noise is an issue here and that we were 3 young families so I am not expecting great things. Only that the cousins are having such a great time playing together we would leave now-it really is that bad.

You have my sympathy. Complain. Ask to be moved or for your money back. If you don't ask you will not get as they say.0

I would complain bitterly and keep the pressure on from all the families concerned for a refund.
As the weekend is nearly over and you have just started your holiday things might quieten down for a few nights. Maybe enquire what nights the club is open so that you can deecide whether or not to relocate for the remainder of your break.
Be sure to mention that you'll be putting full details of the noise on Trip Advisor etc.0 -
I'm assuming you are in Touring Caravans...... There are Empty "Static" pitches towards the back of the site (Bordering the neighbouring caravan site) that they let tourers pull up on but you may struggle to get all 3 vans side by side as there will not be 3 vacant adjacent sites. you could ask to be moved up there if there are any free. I'm sorry to say, but, it is a private site so doubt there is much the local council can do and in all fairness it is well known to be beside Kelly's Nightclub (Possibly should have done a bit more homework on the site). Best bet is see if you can get moved way up the site a bit or worst case, pack up, complain and ask for a refund !!0

You have my sympathies, my brother had a caravan there for a short time but the noise was terrible and he ended up leaving after the first year.
My hubby and I went down to stay one Saturday night and we ended up getting into the car and driving home, we tried ear plugs which blocked out the noise but caravan was actually vibrating from the noise coming from the nightclub. We couldn't understand how other families were able to holiday there.0 -
Mars7 did you get sorted?0

Parents have a Caravan there up near the back and I have to say I've never had problems sleeping but I would agree, I have no idea how those close to the nightclub can sleep... but it seems people can an do otherwise they wouldn't stay there...0

Sorry for the delayed response and many thanks for all your help.
Warmhands you are right - we should have known better as it is beside Kellys. Unfortunately this was initially booked by my in-laws and we went along as the plan is we all get caravans together so that all the young cousins similar in age and some based in Scotland can play together for the week. So we just went along with it.
We were staying in hire caravans directly from Kelly/Golflinks. When we booked, they knew we were bringing young children and did not mention anything about noise. this is surprising as the hire caravans are quite literally at the other side of the fence from the nightclub and its large car park.
Unfortunately for us the nightclub was on 3 nights this week - normally it is a Saturday and Wednesday but we had an extra night for A level results on Thursdays.
When I spoke to the caravan site office they said that there was nothing that they could not about the nightclub noise - they did offer us ear plugs- but they said they would speak to the security guards about the noise from the cars. Golflinks/Kellys only have 5 hire caravans which are located in possibly the worst part of their entire and large caravan site. Therefore it was not possible to move us to another part of the site.
Well very little sleep was got on either Wednesday or Thursday night. The noise was so loud it woke my little ones who were coming into our room to say they were scared. All families were exhausted from it all and proper fed up. When we spoke to management on Friday they said that it said in the brochure about the nightclub. We pointed out that they could have and should have done something about the boy racers rallying around the car park all night they blamed the boy racers. In the end they offered us a total refund of £150 to be divided across the 3 families approx 10 % of what we paid.
Considering what we had to put up with it was a measly gesture but that is not the point.
What annoys us most is that they know that the people they hire these caravans out to will be affected by the noise but they don't really care as they are quids in all round. That means that some other poor family who saved up for a family are going to be subjected to the same sleepness nights that we were.
If you know of anyone booking a holiday please advise them that they will face intolerable levels of noise for at least 2-3 nights per week. Secondly, the caravans are not link the caravans that are shown in their online gallery - modern caravans with surround decking. Golflinks/ Kelly's caravans are old and very tired looking and as a result they look quite shabby in the interior and the beds are uncomfortable. It may be possible to rent a caravan from a private individual who has a static caravan on the site and if so just ask where it is in relation to the nightclub.
We stayed in Blairs Hilltop caravan park last year and it was great. I could definitely recommend Blairs and would definitely advise against Golflinks - that is until they sort themselves out and move and upgrade their hire caravans.
Sorry for such a long post!0 -
Mars,
Thanks for the update. I have to say, I hadn't even realised that they rented out vans..... I am/was also under the impression that they do not like individuals who own vans on the site to sub-let/rent them out....
the blas! attitude of the management/security does not supprise me at all. my own experience is that with bigger caravan sites, you don't get the same "personal" touch like you do with the smaller family run sites..... Well put it down to experience and hope it didn't totally ruin your holiday....0
