    I don't agree.

    I can accept that... But....

Would you rather discuss something that has no answer? It's just going round in circles, like previous threads you've read, isn't it?

    1. Blogger says no compers.
    2. Compers start complaining.
    3. Blogger says nothing, ignoring compers' complaints.
    4. Compers continue complaining.

    Every time.

While I have little time for the lady running the competition, I do respect her decision not to include compers. (Not so much the small sizes, but then, that's a very personal thing).

In a previous thread, we discussed how compers could end up being nasty to individual competition holders. In my opinion, it's threads like these, which end up singling out someone running a comp, that are one of the root causes of that nastiness.

    Again I agree.

The OP mentions various organisations, and asks whether they should say that they are banning professional compers, when in fact they seem to be trying to ban unprofessional compers.

Maybe it would be more constructive to talk abut the general issue, rather than concentrating on one particular miscreant. The "old hands" might be bored of the same discussions coming up repeatedly, but I'm new to comping ;)
Thanks to all who post constructively.

There are thousands (probably tens thereof) of competitions we can enter, yet the ones we are discussing are the (very) few that ban compers.

The idea of a 'professional comper' is, indeed, ludicrous, except maybe in the US, where this is more commonplace. I understand there are a couple of prolific compers in the UK, who are able to earn a living from comping. Are they 'professional'? I suppose it's debatable, if they are earning enough to live on from comping.

Comping's not like other hobbies, say gardening - I can spend time in my garden 24/7, but it would never be considered professional because I would never earn a living from it.

Whether one can label a comper as 'professional' or not, it seems a moot point, given that there are so few who could even vaguely be considered 'professional' (i.e. earn their living from it alone).

I think the point here is how many other competition owners are dismissing entries from 'professional compers' either by saying so after the comp has started (like the example in this thread) or by not saying anything at all and just picking people who fit their target audience?

i would not like to think that a large % of the rafflecopter/FB/twitter comps i do are a waste of my time cos people are not abiding by ASA rules.

i think the best thing that comes from these types of threads is that comp runners are made aware that those rules exist.

Unfortunately it's usually by bullying and the "slagging off" of their product.
