debt collectors wanting a cleared debt

  • And when do you believe the last payment was made?
  • I don't know in all honesty. I've not kept any letters or statements. I didn't have any to keep.I'm almost sure this was put to bed otherwise i would have the paperwork. If I truely believed it was still active I would have it all in a folder. Maybe I'm wrong but to hear nothing for years until now, and also with all charges stopped something must've been implemented otherwise I'd have these charges and stuff.

I'm going to disagree with Longtermplanner here. I say dodge them until next year. They are unlikely to take you to court or obtain a CCJ for just £70. It isnt getting any bigger and they are not allowed to add charges. For £70, this is too piddly to worry about for them - they've got much more lucrative fish to fry. File the 'proof' somewhere and ignore them for a while. See what happens.

  • I'll see how it goes. They've already sent a letter asking me to contact them before recovery action will be taken.

I suggest you do not, and neither do you allow yourself to be drawn into any sort of telephone conversation on the subject. Although verbal admission cannot legally be used to enforce the debt, it just eggs them on and they will harrass you unmercifully if they sense blood in the water.

If you get court papers, you may then want to consider a F&F as longtermplanner suggests, but my guess is that they will get bored with you quite quickly. The debt is tiny, you are not lucrative and there are bigger fish swimming by every day.

That's just standard computer spewed out dribble that means absolutely nothing, they wont bother you for long over £70.

Ignore them completely, if by some miracle, they take you to court, pay it, don't worry about trifling little things like this, get on with your life :)
