Gym Cancellation

HI,
Apologies if this is in the wrong thread, but I wanted some opinions/info/advice.
I've been a bit of a numpty - Joined a Gym, used it for ages, stopped using, decided to cancel. Gym has 1 month's cancellation notice. Cancelled on 5th August meaning membership should finish on 5th September.
I've been told that I still need to pay for full month of September because the DD people need notice in the month before the final full month payment comes out.
Will admit that i didn't fully read the T&Cs on the DD, but this just seems a bit off to me.
I'm being held to ransom for an extra 25 days membership at a gym I no longer want to be a member of. I was told of the 1 month cancellation for the gym, but didn't realise that the DD cancellation actually contradicts that completely!
Is there anything I can do, or am i stuck with this?
Thanks
GL

just cancel the dd let them try to get the extra money if they can! dig out the terms and check details.0

Not sure if DD people need a month notice - when I had to cancel one of mine, I just called the bank a few days before the next payment was due and they did it on the spot. I think your gym people are just making things up as they go.0

Just cancel the DD from the bank as you have given 4 weeks notice.0

Hi all,
Thanks for your comments. I'm worried though. I made a mistake a few years ago that affected my credit score and have been working hard to get it back again. I cannot afford to do anything that will screw it up.
The gym sent me the DD T&Cs and it did state on there.
Will admit I'm nervous about cancelling and the ensuing aggro that is bound to follow....
The DD is dealt with through a separate finance company (apparently).
