I am looking for a colour laser printer, not too expensive for home use, any brand recommendations please.Which manufacturers of laser printers use chips to prevent the use of aftermarket cartridges. This site is excellent.

I have a Samsung Colour Laser which has been good. Draw back is that the consumerables are expensive. As well as toner the imagine unit and transfer belt need to be replaced. They claim after 50,000 images but if you read the small print 1 colour copy is counted as 4 images - thus you have to replace after 12,500!

The cheapest place for these is printerbase.co.uk - at £235! However, you can buy a new maachine for £211!! The new machine has in it £389 worth of consumerables.

Anybody know a way to replace the imagining unit and transfer belt cheaper?

Colour, Konica Minolta 2400W from Staples at £179, but they only seem to keep that offer for 7-10 days after which it reverts to £279
Seems to be £229 'clearance' ATM although the shop label said £279 'til I queried the 'clearance' aspect. Staples pricing and display seems to vary between branches so sometimes you need to get them to check.

I remember Viking Direct were offering a Brother HL2040 for £49.99 sometime back. (The price is now £94.99). Unfortunately I can't remember the exact catalogue number, however if someone has the previous catalogues and can pick up the catalogue number, calling them and quoting it will get you the printer for the original price - £49.99.

    Worth having a go.
    My reality check bounced.
