Friday 8th Aug - What small DFW things will you be doing today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:

    Huzzah! Happy Friday everyone! :j

Well after the week of getting nothing done, I managed to leave work at the unheard of hour of 6.30 yesterday! I went home and sorted my life out:
    • Made the chard soup
    • Put bread on over night (can you hear Handel's Hallelujah Chorus in the background?! :rotfl:)
    • Cleaned kitchen afterwards
    • Dinner from stores
    • Bit of tidying round
    • Put a wash on and out over night as it's not raining
    • Plucked eyebrows really well to save going to get them waxed
Feeling very pleased with myself and more in control of life and the universe in general. Today's mission:
    • B/L from stores
    • Portion up soup and freeze (made 6 portions :) )
    • Bring washing in before it rains today!
    • Dinner with friends but at a (cheapish) no-alcohol restaurant
    • Got up at 5.45 to dye my hair (must wash out in a sec!)
    • Going to a gig tonight - tickets bought ages ago, only £5 each
    • Wear dress to work that I can wear to the gig - saves washing!
    • Charge phone in work
    • Staying out overnight so no elec/water used
    • B/L at m-i-l's
    • Not mse but donated money to a friend for charity thing. She has lovely long blonde hair and is shaving it off for a charity that makes wigs for little girls who have cancer and lost their hair.
    • Check online banking and reconcile against spreadsheet
Right - I'm on fire today! Must go shower to wash my hair dye out!

    Have a good one all

    Morning all!

Thanks for starting Carrie - wish I could pluck my eyebrows really well! I am awful at it, and I have a lot of eyebrow!! Although I only spend £3.50 a month on threading and try to maintain it.

    My list for today:
    - wait in this morn for yet another potential buyer for my drawers - just noticed there is a water mark in one in OH's side. Great as she already didn't want to pay my asking price.
    -breakfast and dinner from home
    - going for lunch out with some friends from work - going to try and look at the menu and plan ahead.
    -quick tidy round
    - pop to morrisons and use the free £5 voucher.

That's about it. Yay its Friday! :)

I suppose I mean thoroughly as opposed to doing a good job of them - they wouldn't pass muster at a beauty contest! :)

Today I am going out for a meal with an old school friend. I can honestly say I can count on one hand the number of times I have actually tried to think 'money saving' in this area, but since my 'LBM' I am trying to do whatever possible! So it is Pizza Express two courses for £11.99! :)

    Hello :j

Thanks for starting the thread Carrie :)

Have a nice holiday Ziggy

    For me today:

    Done:

Been to an auction viewing with OH - nothing much there but have earmarked one or two items for my business if the prices are low enough! Had lunch out, not very MSE :o We only had a sandwich and coffee, but it was pretty expensive  Also looked into a craft / vintage centre and bought a couple of lovely hand painted cards for my stash, for around the same price as supermarket mass produced ones :) I also succumbed to a pretty notice board for my kitchen - :o oops! It will save lots of bits of paper from being attached to the fridge by magnets (and frequently falling on the floor) though! And I much prefer to buy things from other small businesses (OH and I both have a small biz) rather than chain stores. I usually find the prices are either about the same or cheaper - and who else has a notice board covered with a lovely green frog fabric :D

1 egg so far today from new chickens :)

    Still to do:

Pick tomatoes - there are loads ready :)

    Walk dog

Sort out some bits to put in my unit tomorrow, as quite a few things have sold over the last few days :j

DD is doing dinner in exchange for OH dropping her hubby off at the local motorway services to wait to be picked up by a friend, as they are away doing motor rally fixing stuff for the weekend and DD wants the car.

    Right, better get on!

    Evening Friday Savers,
Yesterday & today has mostly been devoted to picking veg & doing stuff with it. So the small things list:
*Blanched & froze 3 bags of runner beans & 3 bags of rhubarb.
*Picked tomatoes & made 6 portions of Carluccio's tomato sauce for pasta. After a significant game of 'freezer tetris', mr f managed to get them into the freezer.
*Picked aubergines, roasted them & made 4 portions of curry. Also froze.
*Today, used more of tomato crop to make a 2nd batch of smoky tomato chutney. Bottled in recycled jars & added to pantry which is filling up nicely.
*Discovered lots of Toluna points added on overnight so claimed my next voucher. Did lots of surveys - not Onepoll though, takes ages to get logged into it these days which puts me off.
*Checked bank account to see if Ugov £50 had landed. It had! Transferred it to bathroom fund & signature duly updated.
*mr f volunteered to get the grocery shopping in. I via-ed £20 from bank account into grocery budget to allow for a stock up of sugar, vinegar, etc, as I do loads of preserving this time of year. Will almost certainly be making jam over the next few days. I often tart up jars of something nice to give as gifts, as well as us eating them all year so I shall get my money's worth out of that extra £20!
*Used several vouchers at Co-op to get extra dividend points. (Our local Co-op stayed independent so its divi card is more like nectar)
*Free Guardian with 'My Waitrose' card - minimum spend has dropped back to £5 again for a free weekday newspaper but is still £10 for a weekend one.
*Unpacked huge stash of mags from my Mum & sister - these will keep me going for ages, & the free samples hadn't even been removed. Yay!! Ooooh, they're not frugal like wot I am.......though I used to be shockingly rubbish with money.
*Cleaned house using minimal products & mr f volunteered to hoover while I bottled the chutney, which I thought sounded like a good deal.
*Mum bought cat so much food that we didn't need to buy any for a whole week.
*Have got another £5 Amazon voucher from an online forum I'm on at the moment. Might give it to mr f to put towards some or other bit of daleky nonsense, as I used the last 3 for stocking up the present box.
*Carry on knitting hat when I've decided which colours to include (it's for a present, all yarn from stash).
*Wash hair (using free samples) & leave to dry naturally. Going out tomorrow but will tie it up so as not to look like frizzled freak.
Ziggy - have a great holiday. Devon is on my list for camping at some point.
Have a great Friday night, everyone,

    Have a good one all

An uplifting post and a fab start to the thread!

    Today I have:

    * prepared lunch at home to take in. Only spent £2.50 on snacks which may be £2.50 too much but I was out the house for 12 hours :O
    * done my first face to face interviews at CAB! Hopefully only one more before I can do them unsupported :)
    * rang my homeless friend and told him straight - I don't want to meet up with him anymore until he goes to a GP. I hope he sorts his paranoia out as it makes him aggressive and argumentative with me
    * rang the landlord who owes me £400. Found out he's not willing to pay the extra £73.
    * posted more on landlord forum and on cag forum about the above
    * waited for my boyfriend after work for his computer programming class to finish. Meanwhile rang Orange, which I had been *majorly* putting off. Got a £12.50 refund

    Still need to:
    * prepare dinner - chicken breasts, broccoli, potatoes :)
    * check last four months' bills and ring Orange again
    * contact new employer about contract
    * contact old employer about P45
    * first direct standing order

Hope everyone has a good Friday night & weekend. For the first time in ages my OH is working this weekend so I will be lonely!
