Talk Talk - Debt Collection - Questions

A year ago i was renting a house, had a stable job, and life was good. Then i had some medical/health issues, which made it impossible to continue working, and i had to give up everything. At this time i had an internet account with talk talk. When i knew i would have to give up everything and move back to live with my family in the north i started to close down everything ready for the move. The only problematic utility was talktalk. I asked for a final bill and never received it, re-requested and never received one. Stupidly in hindsight i never did it in writing. At the time i was having a slow mental breakdown, and after dealing with their incompetent staff on the phone for the fourth time, i told them to shove it, and never called again. They continued adding monthly charges for the service even though bt had disconnected the phone line. presumably they carried on, until they realised i no longer lived there.
Now its roughly 12 months later, and it has come back to haunt me. A company called bcwgroup emailed me to ask to phone them. I replied and told them to conduct it over email if they wished, but i wasnt going to phone them (read a thread on here saying never to phone them).
I am looking for advice on where i should go from here. Obviously i need to sort it out. From what ive read i should sort it out with talktalk. But how to do so, is what im asking. if anyone has any advice id be glad of it.
This is the last piece of debt left in my life. I have eliminated credit cards, overdrafts, and everything else i could in the last 12 months. My credit rating is shot to hell, but i actually dont care. Im now a person who refuses to live by borrowing.
Thank you for any help you can offer.
