DFWs at Reading?

Hello all,

Just wondering if any other DFWers are going to the Reading Fest next month? I'm going, but I'm going on my own! I've been before, but it was years ago and I made none of the arrangements so I'm after advice ;) I've got your basic camping stuff and can borrow a tent, but I've not got much money and I need to spend it wisely! What do I need? Also we drove last time, but this time it'll have to be train/coach.

Also, if any of you are going.... can I come and stand near you for 15 minutes a day please, so I at least talk to someone... :o:o

I feel about seven years old now! :rotfl:

The other option is to sell my ticket. I wouldn't be too comfortable making much of a profit on it, but that £150ish would take a chunk off a debt. I do want to go sooooo much. But... I am going alone! Has anyone been alone before? Is it rubbish?

Go or sell, sell or go?:confused:

I've been a couple of times, and it's fab! As far as what to take, I would strongly recommend loo roll (buy a couple of cheap ones and you can usually slide the cardboard bit out of the middle, then squash them so they fit in your bag better. Also, some of that gel stuff you squirt on your hands to disinfect them (Wilkos do it for about £1). Wellies, a microfibre towel if you have one (small, dries out quickly), vodka in a water bottle (lol), earplugs if you want to get any sleep at all, pro-plus if you don't......

You lucky thing, wish I was going!

Sounds as though it's out of my comfort zone.
But for all of those who do go - have a great time.

We go most years but this yearI just couldn't justify the ticket. It's sooooo expensive. I normally go with people but end up going off on my own cos I want to watch bands they don't, that kind of thing.

I would definitely recommend taking the handwash stuff. Try and get there early or you will end up in tent slum. Believe me, it really really is the most grotty of all the festivals, for some reason it's just skanky there in a way that all the others are not.

You probably won't be able to get into the main arena with alcohol so be prepared to fork out four quid for a warm weak beer (if that's your thing). Also, the toilets in the main arena are MUCH better than the portaloos outside (if you can hold on that long :o ).

Hmmm, sound like I'm getting on a bit don't I? I'm off to Summer Sundae again instead. Much more my scene these days!! :D

Thanks guys :) I'm swinging back in the direction of thinking sod it, I'm going but there's still a month to change my mind a few million times! I'll def get some of that handwash!

Last time I went I thought I was sooooo clever. Filled my wellies with toilet roll, then folded them over and kind of tied up with massive industrial elastic bands and attached to the back of my rucksack! Must have looked like such a loser. Worked tho! Much more room for other stuff :D

Agree on the handwash. Wet wipes also good (but no substitute for washing!). Top tip for staying warm at night - if you have thermals wear them as pyjamas in your sleeping bag - will keep you toasty warm.
In terms of the alcohol, we had v. strong vodka & coke in pepsi bottles to take into the arena at last year's V festival (75% vodka, 25% coke) with highly amusing results + much cheaper than a pint of carling.
A couple of year's ago I saw a girl who had smuggled in cans of strongbow by strapping them to her thighs with gaffa tape under her skirt!!!
Top tip from last year's Reading - they had a beer exchange outside the arena where you could swap your warm can of lager for a cold can of carling, so lots of people were swapping tesco value lager for cold carling. OK you can't take it into the arena but a bit of a moneysaving effort.

If anyone has changed their mind about going my son would love to get his hands on a weekend camping and festival ticket!
They sold out very quickly and he did not get in fast enough.
He is a genuine music/festival lover and would definately use the ticket himself and not try to resell it. We looked on ebay for him but the tickets are going for huge amounts of money and he can't afford the huge mark up ebayers are putting on the face value (around £145 tickets going for up to £300!) I think ebay should stop this as it prevents the real music lovers getting hold of affordalbe tickets.

Please let me know if anyone is looking to sell their ticket or knows where else I/he could try.

    Thank you.

Enjoy the festival if you are going. Don't forget to take a tin opener!
