Good Evening ladies and gents.
I am after some advice. I am currently suffering with tenderness of the above in my right foot. I am a young and like to think fit 29 year old who has a very active job and ex forces.
Has anyone suffered from this and had it resolved via a sports massage etc? i don't want to have any sort of operation. it hurts when i run slightly or touch it.
I cant stand going to the quacks, but i guess if needs must!
Any advice be great.
Take care.

I had this a couple of months ago and Im afraid the only thing that helped was rest.
Hope it gets better soon0 -
along with the rest apply ice to it on a frequent basis if you can0

Get yourself to the docs.

My GP was useless when I had this problem. I paid for private treatment at a sports injury which helped enormously. Ultrasound and massage, plus physio. Some exercises will help. Stretching, calf raises, drawing the alphabet with a raised foot, scrunching a towel with your toes, and standing on one leg.0

not one for slating the nhs but seems everytime I've had an injury or illness of any kind within the last 5 years (I'm only mid 30's!) if I ain't dying then help and treatment is usually limited to RICE or painkillers? bust my tendon big style playing badminton and my whole leg swelled up? all I got at GP and A&E is "ooh never seen that before"? with no explanation of why? it was very painful and had to beg for some crutches. not sure if private is any better but would consider it if I could afford it.When a jar contains rocks, pebbles and sand is it truly full? What about beer?0

If you have recently upped distance or speed it is probably quite normal, I suffered this a few years ago, self treated with gentle massage of the tendon with my thumb and fingers probing going up into the calf muscle, stretches of the calf, stand on a step and lower heel, and cut back a little on mileage, a week and it was back to normal.0

I have managed to pretty much recover from achilles problems caused by overuse, without going to the doctors. As Andy says the stair exercise is great. Stand on the bottom step of the stairs facing the top with half of your feet on the step and half off. Lean back a little so you can feel the stretch, without it hurting. Hold for a minute. Step off and relax then repeat 5 times. You should do this twice a day.
There are other exercises that I did and you can find recommended exercise plans on the internet.
Rest is helpful at first but as it starts to heal gentle exercise is important - nothing that really hurts though.
I was told it can take up to 6 months to full recover and I have been 2 months now. I am still not back to running but I am doing aerobics and cycling which seems to be helping.0
