Pay day loan fraud
Hi,
I'm posting this with regards to a situation my father may be in. I help my father with his finances, checking his credit report etc. In January my father sold his house to pay off debts and as a result he had ~£15,000 in cash left. I personally saw his bank statements around 6 weeks ago and he had over £10,000 remaining. He also has a credit card with a ~£3,000 limit and no balance.
My father has a noddle account registered to my email address, earlier today I got an alert and logged into his account to check what the alert was about. After logging in I found there have been nearly 10 different PDL applications made to various different lenders (shady lenders, "Uncle Buck Payday Loans" etc) on Thursday and Friday last week. The address used for the applications was my fathers old address, the house he sold over 6 months ago.
I've been unable to get through to my father yet (he's at work) so I can't ask if he made the applications but based on the circumstance (he has money, he has access to credit) I see absolutely no reason for him to have taken out these loans, for that reason I'd like to know:
What do we do if these loans have been fraudulently taken out in his name? Do I need to contact the police? The lenders? Put a freeze on his credit report?
Thank you in advance for all your help! I'm aware that the majority of claims of pay day loan fraud are from people who have taken the loans themselves but based on my fathers position I'm almost certain this is fraud.

If they are fradulent applications then yes I would contact the lenders and contact actionfraud for advice. http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/fraud_protection/identity_fraud
It may also be worth him signing up to CIFAS protective registration, which makes it harder for anyone to take out credit in his name, costs £14 for a year.
He could possibly also put a note on his credit files that potential lenders would see when they perform a credit search (a notice of correction).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

Thank you! I finally got through to my father, he's 100% certain he has not applied for any credit so I'm going to follow your steps now. Thank you once again!

I've phoned each pay day loan company, a few of them said they had no applications on file (which is strange) but one of them provided me with a few details, they gave an email address used by the applicant (which does not match my fathers but is the sort of email you'd expect someone to make up when committing identity theft) and most interestingly they provided me with an employer name... a name that matches an accountancy firm my father used ~20 years ago when he was self employed!
My conclusion is that the accountancy firm has either incorrectly disposed of my fathers details (although I find this unlikely) or an employee at the company is committing fraud! I filed an action fraud report and spoke with Experian, once they verify his account we'll be disputing every item and we'll set up CIFAS.
Thanks again for your suggestion!0 -
Hi,
As per my opinion, First of all your should go to Bank. Bank will check your transaction history & they can track them after getting the exact list of cheaters you can also claim your case to police department. In case if bank is not responsible for any fraud with your account. Then go to police directly.
Hope you will get justice..
