When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.

    * do a energy supplier search

I switched to the Co-Op for gas and electricity. (Link) So far they've been excellent for customer service, and the price is good too, unlike nPower who were a total nightmare. With the Co-Op my bill was a day late in arriving so I phoned them and customer services made the bill appear on my internet account instantly after a two minute phone call. I was impressed.

Have you seen the MSE guide to switching suppliers? (Link)

    Morning folks,

Thanks to DNMS for starting us off.
    Ally - have a nice relax :)

Very naughty start today. I had to bin some veg that has gone off. Combination of not being organised, not being home and working too many late nights. (D minus - must do better.)

Quick post from me cos am technically working right now :o

    • B/L/D from stores
    • Birthday cakes in office, nom nom
    • Check online banking and reconcile to spreadsheet (trying to get back into the habit...)
    • Overtime
    • Crochet 1 square of throw
    • Put away items wombled from friend's house on Saturday (she is moving away so won't need them)
    • Decide on best use of swiss chard before that goes off too.
Sure there is more but that will have to do!

    Have a good one all

    Morning all!
    Thanks for starting DNMS.
Well done on the CC payment ellesbells.

Carrielovesfanta - I did have a little laugh at your grade! I wouldn't say it was that low if its just veg. Ive watched in despair at MIL house - she buys expensive meat, veg, condiments etc. But shes such a social butterfly she eats out and it all goes to waste.

    So my list for today:
-utilise the Mr.t vouchers that have arrived in the post.
    - check banking
    - list old chest of drawers on FB selling site to make space and replace the money for my new ones.
    - something from home for dinner (?)

Not much for today, had a bit of a bug yesterday and feeling drained today. Ironic really considering during term time Im surrounded by 30 4-5 year olds in their first year exposed to germs and I haven't had a day off work *touch wood* in my teaching career.
I have a week away from them and I get ill! haha :)
Paying it all off in 2017:
    Finance 1- [STRIKE]115[/STRIKE] Paid Jan 2017
    Finance 2- 335
    CC - [STRIKE]2000[/STRIKE]1800
    OD 1 - [STRIKE]2200[/STRIKE] 1850
    OD 2 - 2500

Afternoon All! Better later than never... :p

Thank you for starting us off DNMS- hope are doing well in your new job, missing your lists in mornings- always wonder how you manage doing so much, especially with looking after DGD? :o

Ally & Solverncyseeker- have a nice week off, sure it's well deserved! :D

Manic weekend here:eek:, work, getting mattress home & upstairs, cleaning & tidying - getting house ready for visitors. I was really in a faul mode over the weekend- took all my free time to clean, tidy & re-organise for in-laws staying with us for a couple of nights before we go to Donegal (we have to drive both cars!!!) plus we had terrential rain all day Saturday & got soaked a couple, grumble - grumble.

Back to my normal work today, some sort of a normality returnes. Too bad when I get home the in-laws will be there- can you tell I'm not a fan of my in-laws?;) Tonigh we will have chinese take-away- I hope they pay, if not I will only pay for ours. This whole week already costs a fortune and I'm already !!!!ed off. Sorry about venting!

    My list for today:

:starmod:Get reduced bread oout of freezer- saving a few pennies.

:starmod:Researched best euro exchange rates locally- the cheque centre still the best value- 250 euro = £201.86 . I'm glad euro exchange rate is on the up again, at one stage it was same for same!

That's me for now, I will keep reading everybodies posts. Now I just have to try to put my 'pleasant face':) on for the in-laws. Bah - humbag!
:p "NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS FREE FOOD" :p
'They can have my money but not my life!'
 Debt & mortgage free in 18 years

  • Hi, I am new here, I registered a few years ago, but barely been here. Anyway basically had a lightbulb moment over the last week, with regards to how badly I am in debt. So bad this week I needed to borrow money off my Dad to make up my rent. Because of my personal circumstances and a condition that makes me tired, I can't just sit down in one go and look at my finances and get a clear picture, it will take me a few evenings, probably end of the week.

The good news is since Friday I have been careful with my money. So my things I did today was:-
Used leftovers from last night for tea tonight.
Day 3 being Diet Coke free; I was drinking between 2-3 litres a day!
Switched the tv off instead of having it on in the background with no-one watching.
When took kids to park for free this afternoon, left purse at home.

Left it at that for now, I am still getting my head around all this and want to
Be Debt Free, so hopefully will get plenty of ideas here.
