I had been living with my parents in a London council flat, but now have been thrown out of the house because I had a row. I'm currently living on job seekers allowance and now living at my friends only for a couple of days. After that I dont have a clue what to do or where to go. I can't rent out a flat because I'm only living on benefits, and I dont want to be homeless living on the streets as I will struggle. Any advice. Please help

Have you thought of enquiring at your local council Homeless Unit, they may be able to help depending on your age and circumstances.... you may also be able to claim help with rent and council tax but your local council will have plenty of information on its website.. also CAB could be a useful source of information... good luck....#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

i would suggest going to the nearest Shelter offices - there are often local small charities which offer emergency accommodation for circumstances such as yours in the homes of private families - Shelter will know about these, and also what to do for you in the longer term. good luck0

A few questions to try and get a better picture and think of anyhting that might help! How old are you? If you are under 18 social services *might* be able to help you. What part of the country are you in? Do you have any disabilities or anything that night make you eligible for special help?
Finally, is there no way of mending things with your parents?“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

Shelter dont offer accomodation any more clutton.
there will be local housing advice centres, however, they are mainly rigged up to do with the legal side of tenancies and problems.
therefore you should be able to access your local council ( it must be the one where your parents live) and go to them. take every bit of paper you have, passport. Also if your freind cannot accompany you then you must take a written signed letter from them stating that you are only able to stay tonight, and not tomorrow night. otherwise you will sit all day in the council office and they will tell you to come back when you dont have anywhere to stay THAT NIGHT. it is also very time consuming so do make yourself get down there for 9am.
theywill ask you and undertake an assessment of need.they will probably call your parents to check you cant return there. they will also ask about your benefits ( take any letters if you have them) health and so on, to determine to what extent you are "in need"
the council MAY have a tenancy deposit scheme where you can borrow the deposit for a rented flat that housing benefit will pay for.
i dont know where you are based, some places have more pressure on temporary & emergency accomodation.
good luck , let us know how you go on. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
lynz - i had assumed that Shelter only offered advice - but mentioned them in case the may know of emergency accommodation - if this is not the case - what DO they do ?0

Get the hell out of London, move North were accomodation is more sensibly priced!0

I am over 18, age 23. I dont get along my my parents and they think I'm at a age where I should to support myself anyway. If i had a job, I guess it would be easier for me to rent a private place or something. But finding a job isn't easy for me, in my case its really difficult.
Can my local council help me. If I do get temporary shelter, what happens after that?

At the moment I only have a few hundred pounds in my account from savings. If I have to rent out a place, what and where will be the cheapest. In my local area, council rent is usually £70 - £80Sorry No Links in Signatures by Site Rules - MSE Forum Team 20

I hope you don't mind me asking but why is it especially hard for you to get a job? Do you have a disability, addiction or mental health problem? If so, maybe one of the organisations that supports your specific difficulty might be able to help.“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”
