Incorrect. Coconut oil has a high smoke point and is quite good for frying. Lard also has a high smoke point and that from naturally fed animals is preferred to those that eat grains.

    .

Virgin coconut oil has a smoke point of 177c.

Refined coconut oil has a higher smoke point. However the health benefits can vary on depending how it was refined especially if hydrogenated.

I would go with the lard

Coconut oil has excellent cleansing properties when used in soap, however, too much makes a very harsh soap.

It also makes a nice hair conditioner. Comb it through the hair and leave for a while, before washing.

I was looking for some in Tesco yesterday and the only tub of it that they had with all the oils etc cost £6, so obviously I left it on the shelf. When I went to the 'World Foods' aisle, however, there was another brand for £2. Always check the World Foods aisle for cheaper versions of 'exotic' foods.

With such a price difference, you might not be buying the same product. You can buy olive oil for a range of prices but they're not all the same quality.

I use Biona. It's available in jars from health stores like Holland and Barrett - great for the skin as well as for cooking!

Biona and Tiana are the best ones. And coconut oil DOES have to be RAW ORGANIC VIRGIN kind otherwise it was heated and its healing properties are lost. It may help with cholesterol because it improves liver cleansing properties, and if you want to deal with cholesterol, just eat plenty of bright vegetables, some whole grains, fish and AVOID sugar and processed foods 100% plus take some coconut oil daily as is (and you can cook with it, but it's a bit pricey to waste it like that and frying isn't the best idea of food prep either) :)

I'd also recommend the Lucy Bee one - I prefer the flavour of that one to the Tiana brand.
