home made washing powder recipe?

Hello all you lovely Old Stylers!
I am looking for an old post/thread that had a recipe for home made washing powder, I've been trawling for ages and cannot find it!
I did make a note of the recipe, as I have bought soap flakes, etc, but I think it has been thrown away in error (I'm in the middle of a de-cluttering frenzy)
As an allergy prone person, I hope that a simple home made powder will help reduce some of my sneezy, itchy symptoms
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I would be ever so grateful.

The quantities I use are three bars of soap and one bag of soda crystals.
I also add a box of Biotex but it isnt essential.
About a tablespoonful is enough for a wash.

Thank you, I've spent part of the afternoon grating soap and part cleaning out cupboards!

You could try this

2 cups soapflakes
1 cup washing soda
1 cup borax (I could only obtain borax substitute, but used that)
500g bicarb. Shake well together.

I use this all the time, using 2 tablespoons per load, seems to work fine.

I've also seen a recipe without the bicarb which is probably ok.

Hi Linda, what i use are Soap Nuts, they may be good if you have allergies 'cos they're a natural thing.

I have found it really difficult to get soap flakes now. The only brand I can (occasionally) get is called something like "Granny's originals)

I think they were stark raving bonkers to discontinue fairy snow, lux, Fairy toilet soap (sobs) and sunlight just as people are becoming interested in "greener" and old fashioned ways.
As for them ruining Pears soap.... :eek:

Yes, soap flakes do seem hard to get now. I buy "Grannie's" from a Boyes store near where I live. What happened to Lux soap flakes, as you say , never seen them for years.

The last time I was in @sda they were selling bars of household soap quite cheaply. It smelled just like Fairy, too. If you can get hold of it try grating that

Morrisons do a nice green one, sporadically. I like to use carbolic soap in mine.
