Running insoles

I've been running for a couple of years now and I'm training for my first marathon hopefully in October. About a year ago I had gait analysis and got told I needed support shoes due to over pronation. Since then I've been wearing Acsis Gel Kayano shoes for road running and I love them.
Unfortunately a few months ago my friend who was also a keen passed away and left me 2 brand new pairs of running shoes as we were the same size feet. Unfortunately these aren't support shoes, they're for neutral runners.
If I go to my local running shop and buy some custom made insoles and put them into these new running shoes would that give my feet enough support, or would the over the counter ones at Boots do the same job? Will they even work or should I just stick to my support shoes.
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm not sure how the support in running shoes work.

You might be ok with the neutral shoes? There are some people out there who think gait analysis is just a load of rubbish and buy whatever shoes they find comfortable.

I did try a short run in a pair yesterday (about 3 miles) and found them harder work to run in and that my ankles and legs ached a lot more. I don't know if maybe I just need to get used to them more, but I never had that issue with the Asics. I just put them on and they were really comfortable right from the start.0
