Underwriters opening hours

Hi
After our advisor spectacularly cocked up our application after spelling my surname wrong the mortgage was offered but to the wrong name. The mortgage then had to be sent back to the underwriters to alter the name (without an E on the end) literally one extra letter :/ anyway we still haven't heard back from them and the error was noticed on Monday (now Saturday). Emailed mortgage broker yesterday and he said we may hear over the weekend?? He's not worried about the app at all whereas I am pooping mysef as we are quite far into the process now and In the middle of the chain! So after that long winded background are underwriters even working at a weekend? Is it likely I will hear I over the weekend?

Thankyou

  • Quite a few underwriting teams are working weekends at the moment because of backlogs.

This sort of error should be easily sorted out - try to relax - but there is a queuing process for most actions, including review by underwriter and/or sign off of revised offer.

Error lies with both the adviser and the lender (who should have picked this up during their processes)

You could also argue the applicant should have picked up on it?
KFI has the applicants name on, as does the application form - assuming they received 1 or both of these.

Not that its a blame game, its just a case of human error and trying to resolve it as quickly and painlessly as possible.

As above, some underwriters are working over the weekends. Who is the lender? We might be able to confirm for you.

  • Hi

We didn't fill in the application form the broker did, and he admits that he just assumed I had an E on the end. At the same time he also admits that the lender should have picked up on at as all docs wtc had correct name on. The lender is santander/abbey it was super fast we had AIP then within 2 weeks valuation and full offer! That's why so concerned now as it's been with them since Monday and we have heard nothing :(

    Thankyou all for your replies

Fairly typical for Santander - if it goes smoothly then it flies / but 'once the wheels come off' its painful and very difficult to influence/pressure. They are processing over weekends at moment - I haven't seen any progress messages from them today (we have half a dozen or more cases with them at any given time) but we certainly had a few last weekend.

We have a couple of cases that were 'passed to underwriting' on Tuesday that haven't come back yet.

  • Is it really possible they could decline now? Could they have credit checked the wrong person as early as AIP stage? Surely my national insurance number address etc would mean they checked the right person? Mine and partners credit is good according to equifax and he has settled default from 5.5years ago for £350. But obv he has passed their checks as he was on original mortgage offer! Feel sick with worry :/

  • Theoretically possible - but I see no reason why they would in the circumstances you describe.

Open a bottle of wine (or two) and relax will you !!!!!!!!!!
