Australia - cheapest way to send a parcel?

Hi Everyone

Would anyone have any advice on how best to send a parcel to Australia.

It weighs 4.3k and has measurements of 84, 44 and 20cm.

Many thanks for any help.

No idea of UK prices, sent a 10kg to DD3 when she first went, on her sayso sent it by courier and it cost €200, I was shocked and asked at local post office, would have cost something like €50 and would have only taken 2 days longer. My advice therefore would be to price courier and post office and any other service you can find.

From experience I've found Royal Mail to be the cheapest (shocking I know!) but it's worth looking around and getting some courier quotes. Remember the longer you can wait for it to get there the cheaper it will be.

I find royal mail expensive to Oz, 4kg is just over £100, I use world wide parcels, do 2 parcels a year and 5kg is £87, if you put the measurements in and get a price then go to leave the page, you can get a 5% discount.
I sent 2 parcels 7kg combined at Xmas and it was £92.

If anyone knows if I can get this cheaper elsewhere, please let me know.
  • I realise that this won't help you right now, when you have a parcel all packed up and ready to go, but maybe next time.

Why not purchase the goods online from an Australian firm, using a Mastercard or Visa, and have them sent direct to the recipient?

Unless your gift is something which is not obtainable in Australia, that should work out a whole lot cheaper.

Try going to parcel2go on line and putting in the weight and dimensions. We've used them and they are cheaper in this country. Sometimes Royal Mail is cheaper for abroad though. I usually ring my local post office and ask for a price from the weight and dimensions I have and check parcel2go online to see which works out cheapest.

Parcel2go is (I think) spare space that the couriers have so they sell it cheaper than going to them direct.

When I was living in the UK and sending stuff home, I found anything over 2kg is charged at a higher rate per kilo than under 2kg. Someone at the post office recommended splitting the parcels. Since then, I never send anything over 2kg, but multiples instead. I had a 3kg parcel they wanted to charge 70 pounds for. I sent 2x 1.5kg instead, and got charged 15 pounds each. When I came home I sent a lot through seamail, but took 14 weeks to get here.

    Hi,

Can the parcel be split?? when I was out there it was cheaper for my mum to send 2 parcels of 2Kg then it was to send 1 large parcel, but then she was sending me clothes as it was cheaper than buying them out there
