Employer now bancrupt, need proof of employment

I may be on the wrong site for this question but if anyone can point me in the right direction please. I need a checkable work history of 5 years for my new job and one of my employers went into liqiudation 2 years ago. How can I get details of the date the company went into liquidation?

This is a bit of a stab in the dark - and no doubt someone will be able to point you in the right direction soon - but if your previous employer was a limited company, would a search of the Companies House records help?
