Returning debt collection letters to sender.

So to cut a long story short I received a letter from “Company A” looking for thousands from me due to being uninsured by 4 weeks at the time of an accident for costs relating to repairing the other car involved. Unfortunately I didn't get the insurance renewal in the post as I had moved house 2 months previously and no forwarding mail was sent by the previous landlord! (lesson learned for next house move). The driver actually at fault sped away after seeing he caused the accident between us. After phoning my insurance company to hear that I wasn't insured I agreed to pay her excess and her insurance company agreed to repair her car.

The only information the other driver took from me was my name and first line of address, no car details or registration plate were noted down by her. My name and address was obviously passed onto “Company A”, hence the letter.

With this in mind I am thinking of just writing NOT KNOWN AT THIS ADDRESS - RETURN TO SENDER on any letter they send me and be done with it. Like I said we both agreed it was neither of our faults. Her car is fixed with no cost to her and she didn’t have to pay her excess, my car is repaired at my own cost.

I have never been in any sort of situation like this so can anybody give me a rundown of what will likely happen i.e. more letters, debt collection letters/ bailiffs, court summons etc? Can "Company A' do much with just a name and an address for someone? I am on the electoral register, can companies access this to see if I indeed live there? Maybe send them the forwarding address of my parents house who live abroad? :p

I’m almost never at home so unless debt collectors work at 1am they would never have contact with me other than by post. Which would always result in NOT KNOWN AT THIS ADDRESS - RETURN TO SENDER and being plopped into the post box the next day.

Thanks so much guys and gals for any advice you could give me (apart from telling me to make sure I change my address with Royal Mail promptly next time I move to avoid anything like this ever happening again!) :o
