  • Wow, your student loan is really coming down. I'm going to try and kick mine into touch by next summer. I think I've got 13 months of regular payments to go, but if I can get it down to 9, I will be about £150 a month better off.

Blimey, where do the years go? I've just remortgaged so thought it was time for an update. I regularly overpaid £250/month, and got my debt down to £128k ish. The value of my house has gone up to £195k according to the Halifax index, so I got a nice interest rate of 1.86 variable tracked with Skipton (who I was already with). Reduced the term by six years to 16 years and 9 months, and can make unlimited overpayments for the three years of this tracker, and exit it without penalty if need be.

Student loan is paid off, and the cat has died. RIP Charlie, we still miss you.

Boyfriend's career is maybe looking like it might take off soon, and if so, will discuss him putting money in a savings account towards our next house. As much as we love this house, we still really want a bigger garden at some point (and a dining room). Not really thinking too much about that now though, as it's good to appreciate what you have.

  • Well, another couple of years has passed and I've been plugging away at reducing my mortgage.

I have three years left on my fixed term.

Current mortgage is £81,621.94. I have an overpayment of £14,225 saved to make in January when my overpayment allowance ticks over again.

I'm aiming to clear it all by the end of the fixed term. Let the three year countdown begin!
